It was listed in a recipe in a cookbook I have, and I don't even know what it is? Tried the dictionary and tried looking it up online to no avail...??? I understand there is a place called Auburdine, but that obviously can't be it. Can any one help me. As far as the cookbook goes, the spelling I used is correct.

I reckon it would be a mis spelling on their behalf of Auburgine?

I think your recipe has an error in spelling. Aubergine may be what it is trying to say. It is a type of eggplant that is native to India and Sri Lanka. Check the recipe again, could this be it? I hope this helps.

I'm with Dasher on this. Check the context. Vegetable? Likely Aubergine. Available at the nearby supermarket or fruterie

Aubergine is eggplant. I think your cookbook has a typo.
