Start with the ten commandments. To break any one of those is a sin against God.

A sin is ungodly.
Psalms 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

How is a sin calculated??? It just plain wrong and punnishable by God.

Anything that the Father calls sin is sin. The 10 commandments or Laws is there to let you know when your in sin. You need to read the Bible.

A sin in my own opinion would be negative karma, something that you wouldn't like to happen to yourself. A sin would be morally wrong and supposedly everyone has different views on morals so sins may be the same.
Calculations: an arm for an arm, a tooth for a tooth, karma basically ^^

I assume that you meant to ask: What is sin? How does one sin? Are there degrees of sin.

Sin in the original meaning meant "to come short of."

Kinda like, your Dad saying, "I'm really disappointed in you." Or on a positive note: "You can do better than that".

One commits sin when one fails to live up to your potential as a human being, or if you prefer fails to love his brothers equally to himself. (Folllow this commandment and all the others fall into line.

Yes. Obviously a little white lie is not as bad as murdering someone.

Mainstream religion says there are two main types of sin

1) Mortal: Serious sins such as murder, homosexuality, pride, deceit, laziness, lust etc.
Mortal or grave sins are committed intentionally to harm others or you know what you are doing is wrong. Mortal sin is said to cut us off from God and Christ completely- unless we repent

2) Venial- Less damaging sins or sins that were not committed intentionally (like mixing clothing fabrics and eating shellfish ahhaha). These dont cut you off from God- only open you up to satan to be attacked more. Repent Repent Repent.
