They force your body to excrete excess subcutanious water (fluids under your skin) through your urine, through pathways of your kidneys.
Do not take them! Unless you were prescribed them by a doctor.
If you think you are retaining too much water then try herbal diuretics, they are safer, and labled "Water pills", take in a little extra potassium with them, since they excrete this important mineral.
Drinking water and a good workout can also make you loose water retention. Try all 3. Good luck.

diuretics are given to flush your body of excess fluid. sometimes certain illnesses, medication etc. can make the body retain too much fluid. that can be uncomfortable for the person and isn't healthy. diuretics will make a person do number one (to be polite). diuretics should not be used in daily, normal, healthy instances. forcing one's body to purge too much fluid, unnecessarily, is bad because valuable nutrients and minerals will be lost. it will also throw off the sodium/electrolyte balance. hope that helped a little.

what are duiredics?
do you mean Diuretics? (di-u-RET-iks) are sometimes called water pills. They work by helping your kidneys flush excess water and salt from your body. This reduces the amount of fluid in your blood, and your blood pressure goes down. There are different types of diuretics. They are often used along with other high blood pressure medicines and may be combined with another medicine in one pill
