I've found that the best time to start potty training is at around 2 and a half. It's real easy, they are ready to learn, they can understand you when you describe feelings, and they can tell you when they feel that way. I have friends that have trained their child as early as 18 months, but they all had a really hard time with it. Lots of carpet cleaner, lots of laundry, and the kids just dont take to it easily. The benefit is that they saved tons of money on diapers over the next year.
It really just depends on you when the best age to potty train is. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd say to wait closer to when he reached 2 years old since they understand much better then. I started my daughter at 17 months, but it seemed to take forever. You can still try to sit him on the pot a few times throughout the day if you're energetic, but don't expect much to happen. The idea is really just to get him used to sitting on a toilet for right now. It takes a lot of patience. It's unlikely he'll know that he should pee in the pot right away tho. Someone told me that you could undress a doll and put it on a doll potty to help teach a child to pee on the pot. I didn't start getting pull-ups until my daughter was understanding the potty business and what she had to do. (At almost 3 yrs of age). Next summer (best season to start potty training), start putting underwear on him during the daytime and of course set him on the pot every few hours. He will pee himself eventually, but then realize he's wet and feel wet. This is normal, so don't scold him. If you take him to the potty afterwards he'll get the idea of peeing in the pot and not want to wet himself after a while. Patience and practice! Lots and lots of it.

It all depends on your toddler. YOu have to look for the signs if he is ready to potty train. some of them are if when he naps does he wake up with a wet diaper? If so, then he may not be ready.
does he let you know when he went wee week? or does he left you know if he has a cockey? These are also signs that he is ready. You can also take him in the bathroom with you and have him sit on his potty while you go wee wee and tell him that he can be a big boy and go potty like mommy and daddy in the big bowl eventually when he masters his potty.
IF your son gets scared or has no i nterest in it. According to my pediatrician she tells me that if you keep insisting on the potty training this can be very traumatic to the lil one.
Eventually you will know for sure if he is ready. I also know that for boys it takes longer to potty train. And this is a very long process. You also have to be very consistant. you can also see how placing him on the potty every 1/2 hour and you can make it fun for him by bringing in a book or even a toy while he is on the potty. You can also bring the potty in the living room and have him sit on it while watching his favorite cartoon.
hopefully this helps you. if you want you can email me and I can give you the very many signs of "when your child is ready for potty training" I got this from my pediatrician.
Ohh and you have to remember that all children are different. some take longer than others. I have known people that had their children potty trained completely by age 2 and others as late as 4. I have found this is one of the hardest things thus far by being a parent. Since you aren't in control of this at all. It's all up to the lil one.

Now is a good time to start preparing him. I say about 2-3 weeks before he turns 2, put him in underware and sit or stand him in the pee pee position. I prefer standing for boys because once they see it come out they will want to do it again and again. You have to be prepared for many many accidents and don't change him right away. Wait and see if he will come tell you, then change him. He will soon get tired of being wet and then No More Diapers! Pull-ups are just glorified diapers and the child will depend on them like a diaper. Only use them when you have to go out.

When he looks like he's ready. If he's showing interest in the potty when you go, then he may be ready. Otherwise, 2 would be the age. I'd use underwear or let him run around naked. Pull ups maybe for night time use only.

My doctor told me not to potty train until my son is ready. My son understands what the potty is, and what its for, but refuses to use it. He is now 3, and still in diapers. I know he will do it when he is ready to get out of diapers.
I would take cues from your son for when he is ready. It can be a big struggle if you push him into it.

Pull ups are good but baby soon figures out that they're diapers and starts using them accordingly. I found placing my son on the toilette after eating and drinking (especially) got him use to the idea of using the toilette (wait patiently but don't force it. It shouldn't take 10 min to get him to do something). It may take a while and definately BE PATIENT, this is new for him too.

you should start training him now just get him / her familiar with the potty leave it out in the bathroom all the time so bubs can see it , then before bath time put bubs on it tell bubs wee wee , keep doing this when you change clothes different times of the day make it a habit, also make it seam like its fun to wee wee on the potty , bubs will come around pretty fast , also if you catch bubs doing a wee out him/her on the potty asap so they know this is where to go . rob

Good Age to start is now. Always start right before they turn 2. They'll have it mastered before they turn 3. Let him run around in just his underwear/pull up. Naked also makes him have easy access.
