I am going to school to get my massage therapy license in the fall, and I was wondering what other people think of massage. Would you go get a massage? What would you be looking for in a massuer?

I think massage therapy is GREAT. I have had a few professional massages and they have helped me with muscular tension and stress.

I have only had one not so pleasant experience with a massage and that was when the massage therapist tried to be my psychotherapist at the same time! She wanted me to tell her all my problems and then she just kept talking at me the entire time she was giving my massage. That was unpleasant because I just wanted to relax in peace and quiet while I was getting the massage.

I, too, am also considering going to school for Massage Therapy. The only thing that's stopping me right now is the application fee and registration cost.

I think what makes a good massage therapist is someone who is in the profession because they care and want to help others, someone who is knowledgable and professional.

Massage is the best invention ever! :)

I've been a massage therapist for 6 years now. Its an awesome field to work in.

To answer your questions tho...

- Of course I would get a massage! :) Being in school was the best. You'll get massages almost everyday!

- What I look for in a good therapist is someone who actually WANTS to be there for their clients. Not someone who kind of shrugs and doesnt give two craps about who their working on.

It takes a special person to want to touch strangers bodies for a living. Good luck! I hope you enjoy it. :)

I actually do go for a massage at a minimum once a month.
What I am looking for (and have found in my therapist) is someone who has confidence in his/her abilities, someone who is able to make his/her patients comfortable, someone who is able to adapt to what the patient wants, and not keep doing what they think is best.
