383 miles is correct but the Potomac River runs from Fairfax Stone in West Virginia to Point Lookout at the Chesapeake. The Potomac River watershed includes all of DC and parts of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Potomac River is the boundary between Virginia and Maryland. It's total length is 413 statute miles (665 km) long.
