depends on "what part" of Texas

Like most of the other posters said, it all depends on where you want to live. I lived in Texas for 22 years. Austin is very expensive to live in if you want to live in a nice area. I left in 1996 and the better apartments went for $900 if you wanted to live in a decent area. I was a kid when I lived in El Paso; I don't think it's very expensive, but I heard it has become a gangland. The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex has all sorts of areas and prices to go with them. Amarillo is pretty cheap, but there isn't too much to do there. (I lived there twice, for about fourteen years.) Figure out what kind and size of city you want to live in, and look on line at apartment rates. Houston is the country's fourth largest city, and it shows. Personally, I don't like Houston, but some people do. If I ever move back to Texas (I live in Las Vegas now, and it's cheaper than Austin), I'd move to the metroplex- maybe Arlington. Texas is like a whole different country, depending on where you live will form your opinion about it.

I have lived in Texas all of my life. I can not say that the living expenses are any higher here than anywhere else. Rent and utility expenses in rural areas seem to average lower than the urban areas, but it is balanced out by higher wages and salaries (exception being minimum wage workers) earned in the urban areas. Gasoline prices in Texas are usually among the cheapest in the country, but considering that on average, destinations are much farther apart here than other states, gasoline consumption is conceivably higher. While I can personally guarantee that the cost of cooling your home in the blazing summer months is higher than many states, it is equalized by the lower cost of heating your home during the mild winter months. All things considered, I would say it all works out about the same regardless of what state you live in.

Absolutely not, Texas is CHEAP. I have lived in Florida, Arizona, California, Oregon, New Mexico, Kentucky, Nevada and Dallas, TX...and Texas is the cheapest out of all of those places.

Property taxes are very expensive and your house value is ballooned every year. 70% Hidalgo, Edinburg, EISD & CC are for salaries alone. Maria
