My boyfriend thought he got poison ivy a few days ago. That's what I think it is also. Then he got bit by a spider right where the poison ivy was and popped the blister it left behind. Now he has red welts all over his body that only itch if you touch them. They aren't bites, it's not just the rash spreading, and it's not an allergic reaction to poison ivy or the spider because I've had both and it doesn't look the same. Is it possible that the poison ivy seaped into his bloodstream through the spider bite and he's breaking out in a rash from the inside out? Or does it sound like the mumps or something? (He has no other symtoms like fever, etc.)

If you get a good enough exposure to the urushiol in the poison ivy plant you can have a "systemic" reaction. You do not get the urushiol everywhere - but your body thinks so and mounts a reaction that will cause the rash to appear to be spreading. I suspect the spider helped make sure he got a good exposure to the urushiol. If the symptoms get worse, he may need to get a prescription to get the reaction under control. Until then have him soak in a cool bath of Aveeno as long as possible - 15-30 minutes. Keep the rash as cool as possible and use calamine to dry up the ooze. (course if you've had this you know).

Everyone reacts differently to poison ivy. Some not much at all & others like me...a huge gross looking rash all over the body. Yes it does travel through the blood. A doctor told me so.

Have him see his Doc. & most likely he will get a shot of steroids & get some medicated cream for the itch.

I know this sounds totally funny and strange but believe me it works.I am highly allergic to poison ivy and when I got it I tried "EVERYTHING" to stop the pain even pouring bleach and alcohol on it and it still didn't work, until i tried "Deodorant" I know it sounds stupid and crazy but OMG it really works to take away the itch and dries it up faster than it would with out it on.After using my "dove" deodorant I went to the dollar store and bought a couple of cheaper brands and rubbed it on like lotion and relief!AAAWWW!!!! also you can do is crush up some ibuprofen into some lotion and make like a paste and that really help too. It also helps with any bug bites and bee stings! But deodorant for poison ivy it really works!
Hope this helped!

That is so weird, I have the same thing right now. It was definitely a spider bite- but now it's a painful( only when i touch it) rash.
