I like this question! If you literally interpret the story of Genesis it would be impossible wouldn't it? But if one does literally interpret Genesis, then really strange things happen: Man is created twice. Once on earth on the sixth day and once through Adam and Eve. And how about Cain and Able? There are no girls there people! Hello!!!! Let's be literal. And after murdering his brother, Cain goes to another town and marries a woman there. Hello! Does the elevator go to the top floor? Are you running on all 8 cylinders? If Adam and Eve are the first creation, then where did the others come from? Hmmm!

And if you follow all those begats, as so many fundamentalists do, you end up with an Earth around 6,000 years old. We positively know that the Earth is older than 5 BILLION years and the visible universe is at least 12BILLION years old. (Red Shift and radioactive rock dating)

And we KNOW that the WRITTEN Bible is not older than 1000 B.C. Kinda hard if you are a Hebrew to write a book without an alphabet, which they "borrowed" from their neighbors (Assyrians, as I recall).

And I can go on and on, but several things should be obvious:

#1: Many parts of the Bible are metaphorical.

#2: Some parts if taken literally are
inaccurate.
#3: There is a hidden meaning here.

And #4: Adam and Eve had belly buttons.

Point well taken. Are we to believe that Adam and Eve popped onto the earth scene a mere 8,000 years ago? Are we also to believe that Eve was made from one of Adam's ribs? And was designed to be his little helper? Are we to believe that Adam and Eve populated the world through interbreeding of their own offspring? Are we to believe that a snake talked Eve into eating a forbidden apple? Are we to believe that Adam looked exactly like God? Are we to believe that God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve?

That is one of the best questions I have ever read on here. Good job! But, sadly, no one would possibly know the real answer to that. I suppose, since God created Adam in His image, and God had no father or mother, the answer would be no. He was the one who breathed life into Adam, he wasn't conceived and carried in a womb like everyone else. Great question!

If you believe that the Bible is absolutely accurate and believe it is literally correct then belly buttons are impossible unless God created them for cosmetic purposes.

Well, I guess if you believe that they were "created" then no. But any other mammal who has been born has had an umbilical cord, and so has a belly button. I guess it just depends what you believe.

No. They were created, not born like we were. Actually, since I haven't met them in person, that is an assumption of everyone, but we won't know until we're face to face with the Lord and ask him.
