Well, they are slow/busy these days. He's probably not going to chase you all over town. Why don't you call him & ask to come in & take a practice ASVAB. Do that, see how you score. Then study study study & when you think you're ready call and ask him to schedule you for the test (that takes him 30 seconds on a list with a bunch of other folks). When you get your scores back, he'll go over them with you. If you scored badly you can go back again in six months. If you don't like the jobs open to you now, wait, in Oct the new fiscal year starts & everything is open. Find the job you want (w/o your recruiter's help), score what you need to get it, and force your recruiter to find it for you. If you don't like how much he BS's you go find another recruiter, hell even try another service. Get the job & service you want cause you're going to be stuck there for a while. Whatch out for your shady *** recruiter trying to fill his & the military's goal & not always having your best interests at heart. It's your job to do your research & make sure you get what you want before you're in the military & what you want is a little less important to anyone else.

You can try on military.com, besides the wealth of info, they have an online chat with recruiters feature that's not bad, or on their forums you can talk to all service recruiters & others that aren't going to sign you up so won't BS you at all. Just do lots of research & attention to detail.

Sometimes it does take a while. Depending on which branch your going into and where you are located it could take anywhere from 1 week to 2 months to get normal things done. Its not like it use to be where you would go to the recruiter, sign a peice of paper and then get on the bus to boot camp. there is a lot of paperwork involved including background checks and full physicals. Also, they have to work out the time scheduling for your schools. There may not be any opening in the schools right now. I know from experience that the summer months are the bussiest when it comes to basic training. the months in between gradually get slower and of course, mid winter is usually the easiest time to get into the schools. after that, there may not be much availability of the MOS that you have chosen. My advice to you is this: Call your recruiter and ask him outright. If he is busy, he may have just forgotten to do some paperwork. if that doesn't work, go into the office and talk to one of the other recruiters from the same branch. And if that doesn't work, threaten to join a different branch. That should get him up and going. Nothing worse to a recruiter than losing a recruiting bonus to another branch. I hope this helps you out.

Keep hounding him, but be respectful. Ask questions like if he got your criminal background check yet. Get in ASAP to take your ASVAB test and that will help determine your MOS qualifications. Once you know that, things should move along, you'll be in for your physical and UA. It also helps to provide as much information that you can provide.
It only took me about 1 and a half months from the time I walked into the recruiters door to the day I was shipped of to Basic.
Like I said, call them everyday. If it's going to be a while for any reason, brush up on your military customs and stuff like that.
Basic isn't as hard as I thought it would be either. I went in at 34 years old and did alot better than the 17 and 18 year olds.
I'll quit rambling, just follow the advice.

If you have met with your recruiter, and he/she did NOT schedule you for the ASVAB and physical, then there is something wrong. Since you don't give a lot of information, I can only guess at what this might be.

Weight problem (overweight)
Legal issues (open violations / too many / felony)
Age (must be between 17 and 42)
Education (must have HS diploma / GED / College)

Call your recruiter and ask what the problem is. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, talk to his boss.

Good luck

You would think they would jump at the chance... call the recruiter and ask him whats going on... if your from a small town it may be that he/she has to make arrangements for your test and physical in another town..... at any rate only your recruiter can give you the best answer... by the way Good Luck

Could be you're too fat, don't yet have your High School diploma or maybe you're an illegal immigrant, or have the intelligence of a gnat. The US Military want people who can think straight under pressure, who have the stamina to keep on when the going gets rough and someone who would give their life for their country. If your loyalty is with 'another' country, they probably don't want you there with a weapon pointed at the backs of our LOYAL American soldiers. Could be your
La Raza/MeChA reputation caught up with you.
Awww, too bad.

Well, Answere R Me, she might be crazy, but she ain't no COWARD!!

Hang in there, they will get you in. There is only a certain number of available slots in Basic training. You must wait for your turn.

Did you ever hear the saying "the squeeky wheel gets the grease"? Well, keep calling the Recruiter and be a squeeky wheel.

it took me a month from the day I walked into the recruiters until the day I left MEPS for the airport. That was in '95 though.

Yeah I met my recruiter in May and I leave for basic July 20th. So don't worry

It depends on how fast you fill out your paperwork and how soon he can get you to MEPS. MEPS is something that has to be scheduled and it can take awhile to get in.
My husband enlisted Sept 27th and left for BCT October 1st, so it can be a speedy process but it is up to your recruiter.
