I fly a lot for work, and am claustrophobic.

First of all, always sit on the aisle, and as far forward as possible - sitting at the back looking at a full plane in front of you can make you more nervous than sitting up front and just seeing a few people in front of you.

I always have a really thrilling book wtih me - something like Grisham or Tom Clancy or Dan Brown... I start reading it before I even get on, and then once I get on I can't wait to open it back up and keep reading. And that passes the time really quickly.

Sometimes, though, you do feel a bit funny... then, breathe slowly and deeply - this will make you feel better right away. And tell yourself "I'm OK - we're going to be landing soon, and I feel just fine!"

What can also help is to look at the other passengers, and the crew - when you see that they are all relaxed and feeling fine, then you realize that you, too, are OK.

Most of all - don't worry! You will be fine - if you get on board relaxed and in a good frame of mind, the flight will be just fine.

Try to get an isle seat. Until then, ride the subway, or the bus. Try "closed off spaces"

self meditation .... you have to understand that everything you feel short of physical ( and that to could be questioned ) is purely a state of mind ... and overcome it ... theres no real alternative other than medicating yourself to the point of no awareness ... the option of being comfortable is there you just simply have to take it

get a laptop computer. Pass the time away. Sit with a friend if they are going too. Sleep. You can make it.

there are medications that you can get from your doctor to relax you for a few hours...I worked for an airline for 31 years.
