If you work out late at night you get a late onset of dopamine rush which will make it difficult for you to sleep. That would be the only side-effect of late-night exercise other than possible lack of cool-down that might make you a little more sore in the morning.

No I do right before I go to sleep, I think it is the best time because you are through eating and doing things that are bad for you, I have lost a lot of weight this way.

Depends on how late. You don't want to work out right before bed because you will have too much adrenalin and wont be able to fall asleep.
