We need to buy a new one. I want the type with pull out freezer on the bottom and side by side doors at the top. Any drawbacks to that type?

Good idea. That way you get the best of both worlds. I have a side by side, and it's just too shallow in the freezer portion to easily store items.

YES. We recently purchased a LG brand just like the one you are wanting. If I could, I'd return it today. It's a beautiful appliance but we are having a problem with the doors closing correctly. If you don't close it all the way (your fault or it's own vaccumn) you will hear a beep beep after about 1 min. But if you walk right out of the kitchen you can't hear it and it only goes off twice about 30 seconds apart.

Last weekend we left the house for about 8 hours and when we came home the doors were not closed all the way and a bunch of stuff spoiled. I was the last one in it and I know that I put my hands on the handles and I thought it was closed. I guess I thought wrong!

Also the ice maker in ours does not know when to stop making ice. When the drawer is pulled out, ice goes sliding along the bottom and out the front, and when melted it makes a nice little puddle of water for someone to slip on! Also there is no difference to the sizes of ice cubes it makes. Small, medium and large are all the same size.

Maybe a pull out on the bottom would be as bad as a chest freezer alone. Anything you want is going to be on the bottom. I'd go with the largest side by side as you can afford and have space for
