When we say knowing someone biblically we mean to have sex that that person. Where does that saying come from? Is it the bible? And if yes what book, verse?

back in genesis, the text reads that adam knew his wofe - -the hebrew "lada'at" -- to know, is used euphemistically often in the text and translates to having "carnal knowledge" -- sex.

The trouble with our language is that we are limited sometimes in what we say. Take for instance the word love. In the Scriptures there are three different words in the Greek that have very different meanings. Our language however has only one word and that word is love. The same things goes for the word to know. There are several Hebrew words and some Greek words that have different meanings for our word "know". One of the words used in the original Hebrew and Greek Scriptures means to know someone in a sexual sense. So I can not give you scripture as to where to find it. You can look it up in the Strong's Concordance or any Complete Word Study Dictionary. Hope this helps.

The St. James translation of the bible translated Mary's words on the immaculate conception as something like "how can this be when I do not know man". See also Genesis, with Adam and Eve. Weird, and dainty, Renaissance English translation from the Greek source. That's where it comes from.

It comes from the Bible. There are many places in the Bible where it says, "And he knew his wife" and "to know" in that sense means to have sex. You'll notice that after someone knows someone else, they usually have a baby, let me find you an example . . .
Genesis 4:1 "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain . . ."

Oh Good Grief... The Puritan's thought they'd go to hell if they said the "sex" word.. Again take it back to Constantine's time.. All you heaven or bust folks sure could use some history lessons...No offense, but you're being brainwashed. Christians were one of the worst people's to kill non-Christians if they didn't convert..... THAT IS TRUTH..Sorry to bust your bubble..
