I'm a Viet Nam vet and went through the same. It is always easier to complain and criticize than support your country. The sacrifices of a veteran should never be questioned. Many people will admire your sacrifice, but may be shy to tell you. Hold your head high, because it is people like you that make a country great.

It's an empty headed knee jerk reaction. Think of the mindset of these people. They're the types that have "No War in Iraq" or "No War", or "No blood for Oil" bumper stickers. When I see them, I roll my eyes. A peacefull mindset's fine, but let's at least have a clear idea WHY we feel that way. "NO WAR" is an incomplete thought. It leaves out anything of substance. "No war"............. Uh, ... O.k. good for you. Now tell me why. The answer's likely to be "NO blood for OIL!"..... This IS a complete thought, but wrong headed thinking.
Consider that the food you eat, the medicine you take, the products you buy are produced hundreds or thousands of miles from where you live. Ya can't have a dairy, or cow farm in the middle of New York City. You can't grow food in the middle of Phoenix. (where it's often 120deg f. ) These have to be trucked or trained in. Then have to be further distributed. The computer you're reading these words on (if made in the US) were trucked in, but had the raw materials trucked into the plant they were produced at first. The medicine many need to live a single day are produced any number of places, but likely nowhere near the home of the patient. It's impossible for millions of americans to survive without oil. In days they'd die, and in a week our country would come to a complete halt. That's a perfectly valid and VERY good reason to go to war.
The folks who say "let's use our own stockpiles" are little better. Our reserves for oil give us a buffer. Nothing more. They're limited compared to our foreign oil sources. The Saddam's in the middle east would know when we used up our backup supply, and would then know we have absolutely no buffer. If they stop the oil supply, THAT DAY is when americans here would start to die.
These are examples to illustrate the empty headed and lack of depth in the attitudes of so many against the war. I doubt, and would be wary of anyone who's HAPPY about us being there. The simple fact is we're there. It's ugly, but it's a fact. Simply pulling our troops out, or not doing anythig after capturing Saddam would have drawn more, (and valid) condemnation from the world for letting down the Iraqi people.

Your so right!
I think ONLY the women and men who has been or is going to Iraq has the right to complain.
It just makes me so mad that the people here in America who sets in a nice cool or warm home, eats hot or cold food whenever they want or gets to walk around without the fear of being shot at or killed are the ones complaining.
Who are we to complain? Was we there? NO Did we see with our own eyes what happened over there? NO
I think our troops are doing the best job they can and I for one will always have the up-most respect for our soldiers. And I will always take up for them no matter what and I will always be there to help out when I can.

First of all Hooah razen!! Second, I haven't been but I've been other places & I'm trying to get WOFT this fall & get in the fight with the kids I've sent there ahead of me.
Third, hell if I damn know why people that don't know si*t about the mission, the evironment over there, or any other damn thing think they're qualified to say crap about anything to me or my friends. They never understood the full reasons we went (which can be justified or not as you see fit) & sure as hell don't understand the mission as it sits now. They have no clue about the alternatives, and they don't understand that the more they restrain our govt & cause politicians to interfere where generals should be making the calls the longer we'll eventually have to stay, the more violent it will be day to day, and the more people on both sides will be killed. They don't understand that the best thing they can do for their country during war, besides enlisting, is to sit down & shut the hell up so we can do our job professionally & efficiently. If they want to get all mad at the few whack jobs convicted of crimes for out of line behavior over there, that's fine, they piss me off too, but unless you REALLY know what you're talking about via a shared experience you need to spend your time with your mouth shut & your ears open educating yourself. Or hey why not sign the hell up & give us a hand huh?

Because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. They don't understand why we're there, what we're fighting for, or why we need to stay.
Furthermore, the culture in America promotes such a degree of safety and restriction that they have little better to do than sit around and get stoned, get drunk, and parrot the opinions of their favorite celebrity of the week or anti-hero.
Furthermore, Cheney was an ex-Secretary of Defense, he understands a hell of a lot more about war than your average American, and DOnald RUmsfeld is the current SECDEF. And Bush? It's not his job to get down and dirty on the front lines. You think these are easy decisions for our leaders? THey aren't. THey have to live with the knowledge that their choices cause people to die. Their JOB is to make those choices, and weigh the consequences.

Why do people who have never been in combat or in a war or in the military support it?
We complain about it because Saddam had nothing to do with terrorism or 9/11 and we have gotten 2, 770 PEOPLE brought home in body bags!
What I want to know is how can people like you be for it? Your company getting rich?

Because they go off of what they see in the news!! They take that five percent of bad media coverage and run with it, they dont take time to review both sides of the story. When something bad happens in Iraq, everyone hears about it. But when something good happens, no one hears about it. Ask my fiance, he LOVES it over there. He LOVES his job! He's a United States Marine. He could show you pictures of the good things. Short movies of the good things. But no one wants to see that or hear about that. I will tell you that I dont thing you will find any service member that wouldnt do it again!!!
