good question. i think it's because they dont want to be convinced of anything contrary to what they believe and just choose not to see the flaws. it reminds me of when i was a kid though.. i asked a pastor at a church why they bible says the earth is only a few thousand years old when science says it's billions... his answer was "i think it's because trees grow faster on mountains".... try not to let that give you a stroke...

Yeah um... nice way to group an entire group of BILLIONS of people all together, asshole.
Apparantely you need some more education, let me enlighten you.
You see, people are... how can I put this DIFFERENT. Just as all white people or all hispanic people or all gay people or all TALL people don't behave the same, neither do all Religious People. Get it?
Probably not. you are too busy trying to find something wrong with what I have said and fight back with some crap about how I know nothing about my religion.
I believe in God, I pray, I don't follow every rule, but I am a good person. I am a practicing Catholic, and proud of it..
Oh by the way, did you forget that the Bible was written by PEOPLE?! yeah, and another thing you might have forgotton, people are not perfect. So the bible is not perfect (I've never read the entire thing, and it's been awhile since I have had bible study so I will not claim to be an expert), I am sure, but neither are you. Religion is not perfect, because while God may be the main focus, he can't send down Jesus down every couple of weeks to fix things up, so we have to rely on our religious leaders, who are not perfect (remember, they are human).
And I bet that you often quote, or at least read some book by some guy who speaks in your favor... or maybe even just an internet blog but I bet there is something that you read where someone supports your ideas in saying that religion makes no sense... So aren't you just using something to make your arguments sound coherent?... yeah.
So yeah... but nice try anyway, asshole.

Because English is a language of double-speak that evolved from the pagan Gentile language, Latin, whose subject of a "subject" subject, is subject to the subject of the "subject" subject.
Since you have to hire lawyers to decipher what someone said or did not say in your own language, how then can you understand an attempted translation of a pure language unless you have been transformed, or spiritually reborn?
Here is a challenge for you. This test was given on my radio show. 100 students--Hebrew, Muslim, Christian and educated and atheistic. They were asked to write down all the serious questions they had on religion and mail them to our radio show. They then checked our book of the month www.trafford.com/04-2126 and were asked to mail the unanswered questions back. Guess the question that over 80 percent mailed in: How did the author know which questions I would ask? The others asked: "Is the writer a prophet?"
Since the contest is over, if you have any different or unanswered questions, you could try an online read and post a question such as "How do I get in touch with Boaz?
Boaz.

I think you need to be careful about lumping all "religious people" or even all "christians" into one big category. Although I am a Christian, I try and stay away from phrases like "because of faith," (don't get me wrong I believe in faith.. and have tons of it )just because I know some people are looking for answers with tangible proof. So, not all religious people talk nonsense... and there is nothing wrong with being analytical or rational... in fact, throw out any "religious" question and you can bet I will always answer it with a rational answer.

I know exactly what you mean.
That rhetorical nonsense and circular logic is generally a sure sign that you're talking to - as you said - people who don't understand the book they believe as truth.
You have to give them some credit though. Most of these people are nothing but Average Joe's trying to understand a book thousands of years old translated from a forgotten language.
All I know is that I have faith that there is a God,.
I plan on continuing down the path to learn and grow so that someday, maybe I can explain it to you in a way that we can both understand. =)

The issue begins with you and your belief.
We have two forms of knowledge: God reveals and man observes.
Religion is based on Revelation not on logic; just as science is based on observations not on belief.
When you try to applied techniques from one to the other, you really do get nonsense, rhetorical or not.
Scientific method is just that, it basically presents rules that take facts into theories. It is not useful in bible study. You can not use it to prove God existence or not. Because when you look at the method, it comes down to what man observes.
What about religion. Again this is based on revelation. Something reveal, and in Christianity it is what God has reveal. Does the bible prove to existence of God. No. The revelation assumes it.
There you have it. It begins with you and what you believe.

If you are talking about Christians and you think that they are rhetorical, read your question again. Christians are not religious by the way. Religion is made by man not God. God hates religions. I know that you think that about Christians because you mentioned the Bible. I know my Bible and I never talk to people without telling them about the truth. Christ died for your sins and whether or not you believe in Him, He believes in and loves you - He died for your sins. All you have to do is to accept His payment for your sins and invite Him into your heart and you will be saved from Hell's fires. "Seek and you shall find"; now you have found the truth.
If this doesn't make sense to you, maybe you just wanted to write to see how many big words that you could put into a sentence. Thank you for your question.

Um...you're not sounding so coherent yourself at the moment. Why do you bother to rant against Christians if you're so sure they're all crazy? Just let go of it, if its nonsense. It sounds to me like you still have some doubt.
Personally, I am a Christian, and I also believe myself to be fairly rational and analytical. I'm not sure why you think we're all so 'circular'.

You mean like:
Matter cannot be created nor destroyed.
In short, something that is, always has been and aways will be in exactly the same total bulk and density?
Or that a singularity (that always exsited and always will exist from matter than cannot be created nor destroyed) caused a big bang and sends stars and planets out into the void and one day gravity makes them all fold back upon themselves to form a singularity and start it all again?
That kind of circular rehtorical talk?

Well, the Bible wasn't written by Christians for Christians. A large chunk of it was written by Jews for Jews...but anyway...I don't get all my information from the Bible, my entire faith is not based on the Bible.
I'm more than willing to have a rational, analytical discussion on faith, but I generally don't like being referred to as an idiot, or being condescended to and compared to a child who believes in Santa, fairy tales, etc...
I'm always open to intelligent discussion, so bring it!

I don't think that they actually want a solution. They are afraid that it would prove them wrong.
They don't understand the bible, some parts they take so literally then if they can't explain a bit they say it should not be taken so literally or that that bit doesn't apply any more.
If god is so powerful, why would he make law that must be changed? Why not just make it and keep it?
