I've never played before and I can be uncoordinated at times. I really wanna play. Tryouts are this Monday. What are the most important thing a coach looks for at tryouts? Any exercises I should do to get ready for them?

I too am a volleyball enthusiast! =) Playing the game could be fun but if you want to make the cut, you have to do hard work.
Practice and train always. Most importantly, have F-U-N!!!

Things you should do before the actual tryouts begin.

You need to know:

Your game
What you can do
What you can't do
Show them your personality
Prove to them that you are not lazy
Show them you have no foul attitude

Tips on Serving

A simple float serving technique can score you aces. Simply toss the ball so that your hand contacts directly on the serve. Although you wonエt be able to have complete control over its action, contacting the stem makes the ball behave erratically in the air. That erratic motion makes it harder for your opponent to pass, thus scoring you more aces.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tips on Blocking

Keep your eyes open at all times. Itエs not easy, but itエs important. If you miss, work hard to pick up the flight of the ball as quickly as possible after it goes by. This will tell you what your next move should be. Make sure to pike, push the ball forward and down, so it is less likely to dribble down in front of you. Keep your hands ball-width apart, itエs like having a third hand up there! Know your opposing hitters. Call them out to your teammates, for their information and your own. The farther outside the ball is set, the more likely it is to be hit angle. Stay home and cover the angle, rather than following the hitter outside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tips on Spiking

Right from the beginning, making a proper approach is the key to becoming a great spiker. Do air spikes everyday as part of your warm up routine. Get back to the 10エ line, make your 2 or 3 step approach, depending upon which approach style you prefer, and go through the entire motion, including a high reach and follow through. Every day, your body will begin to develop a muscle memory of the proper execution of the approach, and you will begin to experience more success.

Treat tryouts as regular practices. warm up, stretch, do ball control, learn something, drill it, do competitions. That is it.

Just do your best and enjoy!!

Trust me, Im always the spotlight at tryouts so I know what to do! If your uncoordinated don't think about messing up just ahve the mind set that your the best girl there and everyone wishes they could be a s good as you!Since the tryouts are so close you can't really do too much to prepare by working out because you'll just get tired so just make sure you get a great night sleep. You'll probably be nervous before the tryouts but you will be a lot better once you get going. Im am terrified of my coach for varsity and every time Im around her I don't want to mess up but once I start playing everything is fine. Don't worry about the tryouts, just go in to have fun and ur bound to make a team!

let me give you one tip, show the coach hat you have potential in becoming a great volleyball player, that's how i made the team because i showed him i could learn to become good and i proved it to him. you should get your bumps real accurate, well at least good enough for the setter to run to the ball and set it. the coach also wants a good server, it's a critical role in earning points for your team. a coach wants people with potential, show it. never give up in volleyball, no matter what. i learnt it. i really sucked during my first tryouts and i still made it, i couldn't spike, i kept running into the net and i kept missing my serves. then later, i got bettter and he's deciding whether to put me on the starting team becasue we have this other person playing the same position and same grade. so yeah. best of luck! i suggest you practice your approaches to spike, it helps work out your thighs. also, when a ball is coming short, DIVE for it. the coaches love it.

All I can really tell you is what i had to improve on...
first~i ran back and fourth across my backyard to build up the speed needed
2nd~try to play a few games 3 to 1...that helps
3rd~Jump up as high as you can for 3-5 min w/out stopping
lastly~work on all your techniques...such as overhand serves, bunts or passes, sets and spike or kills, but work on the technique you are lthe least good at first...Good Luck!

Bump a volleyball up in the air over and over again until you no longer feel the pain.
