When Christ gave the parable of the seed being sown on all sorts of soil in Matt 13:18-23, he meant that people have all sorts of things that make it difficult for them to serve God. Some don't find the time to slow down and even listen to what the Bible says (sown along the road). Others only have an emotional basis for their faith in God and as soon as they are bothered for it, they give up (rocky soil). Others try to overextend themselves and have the best of both worlds, trying to slave for God and for riches, or family, or friends, and give up God as the first thing to go. The one with the heart like fine soil is the one who does what all these others would not. They make themselves available to God and His Word, regardless of what men tell them. They really study the scriptures so as to have knowledge to fuel their faith, not mere emotion. They put God first in their life by thinking of how each decision affects their relationship with Him. It is that soil that allows them to avoid the confusion so prevalent today in those who have limited to no understanding of the Scriptures. Christ said that having knowledge of him and his Father meant everlasting life (John 17:3), as well as his apostles taught that we need to back our faith up by works (James 2:24, 26). Being able to spend eternity on Earth in perfect health with friends and family that all serve God with me? I think it's worth that.

no fruit can emanate from a dead tree. A tree needs fine soil to grow strong.
Your heart ( not the organ itself ) but what your soul expresses as emotions is really the result of your thoughts. Without good thoughts you can't have a good heart.
