In the past, the church has hidden the truth and killed people for stating it. Research of prechristian scholars and philosophers was hidden or destroyed. Even when information was scientifically derived by christian scholars, they did not dare speak it for fear of being charged with blasphemy.

If a group of christians worshipped in a different fashion or had slightly different views from those of the establishment, they were wiped out.

A search for the truth, I doubt it. Ignorance of the truth, no, a conscious denial and suppression of the truth

The christian religion held the world back by 1000 years

Finally, a good question. Well, we would need a solid definition of Truth to answer that one. If not we end up running into a pardox of sorts. I accept nihilism as being truth; therefore, religion for me would be ignorance. If they really knew the Truth they wouldn't or couldn't reject it. Unfortunately we live among humans who won't put the minimal amount of effort needed to really look at their lives and existence; but rather, easily accepted, recycled doctrines that require no insight. I heard that ones perception can be based on a model of reality or delusion and that most of us operate under delusion. This is needed because giving our selves sometime of delusional image is what motivates us to continue, as if we possess an actual importance in the big scheme of things. This point of view argues that it is necessay for this otherwise no one would get out of bed in the morning so to speak. My view is that this hinders true progress. I think if people could look at existence fo what it really is then they could find true meaning-not one given by books, things on TV, or material notions bouncing off society to society, person to person. If we really understood that this is IT, that this is EVERYTHING, that there is no next life, or religious delusion, we as a people might appreciate what it is we have here, now, and make more out of it. People would certainly stop fighting and blowing things up in the name of their religion then. The only thing I disagree about with Nihilism is that it states there cannot be secular morals. I think you can be moral without religion. Mother nature is first and was first-she does not discriminate, have ill-will, or possess a conscience-this is how we should act when it comes to others and life. Nuff said.

Absolutely Rejection Of Ignorance......

Well it depends which religion you talk about. Each and every religion is different and moral values are totally contradictory in some. So the answer to the above is not connected or limited your two questions.

Each religion has to be taken separately and then questioned.
