i dont think it ever gets too cold in the mountain area, for example Quito, the capital, the weather is really hot during the day but a little chilly at night. i was born there but moved to the states when i was about 4 so whenever i go back to visit i go as a tourist since i dont know the area that well. but i do remember last time i was there was in november about 2 years ago and it was hot!! during the day and normally cold, its useless to bring heavy clothes unless your hiking up the Cotopaxi or heading up higher than where Quito is located. one thing i do remember that i lacked, in fact i remember my uncles were like, 'oh dont forget dont bring a pair of sun glasses!' and i didnt really put in consideration since im not the type who uses them daily so i didnt. when we went to visit the "mitad' del mundo" the equator, the sun was sooooo incredibly strong, you couldnt walk without keeping your eyes barely clothes since the sun was tooo sharp, not only hot, but sharp in lighting. and remember this was in a november. another thing you might want to consider bringing is some type of medicine incase you get sick of the height. since quito 3000m above ground, just being there gets you alittle drowsy and sick. i didnt get sick at all but some of my friends did and they told me it was a horrible feeling.
dont bring anything overly 'nice' and 'expensive' talking in relation to clothes and jewelery. when i went there with my bf, he had this real nice white elegant shirt, when we went to the center of quito, every resident kept looking at him, he stood out like a sore thumb and it wasnt the best thing since you never knew whether someone had the intention to jump you or stick out a knife in the middle of hte crowd quietly and ask you for your valuables. luckily it never happened, but it kept flying through my mind through out the entire trip. the reason why is because, you have to consider the wage people make there. to give a little kid a dollar is like giving him a 20 dollar bill. they'll come up to you to ask if you want your shoes cleaned, when i was there, two little kids came up to my bf and asked, we said no thanks, but offered a foto and for the foto gave each one a dollar bill, they were sooooo happy, it was a big thing and it felt good doing it.
have a good trip!!

It really depends where in Ecuador you are going. In you are planning to go to the Sierra region (where the mountains are), you want to bring some heavy clothes because it is kind of cold in most places. Don't forget to bring some boots, too. Due to the cold weather you might need some hand lotion and cream for your face because your skin get kind of dry.
If you are going to the Costa Region (where the beaches are) make sure to get some sun blocker and light clothes.
Finally, if you are going to the Oriente Region (where most of the jungle is) you do need some insect repellent and light clothes as well. Ah! and rubber boots.
Regardless of the place you go, don't forget to bring a good camera and a journal for some notes. Have fun =)

Purell a big bottle and a portable one. Music, books, and 50$ in 5 dollar bills. It's begins to get hard to break 10s 20s and you don't want to go to the bank the first day your here. A change purse. If your on the coast or in the Amazon, bug spray.
