Should I get a cat or a monkey?

Question

I want a pet.
I live in a first floor flat, with a balcony.
I could make the balcony the pets home.
Do cats/monkeys chew electric cable ( I have lots).
My front door (I could put a flap in it) leads onto a comunal entrance, i.e. no way outside without a key.

Monkey are nasty, and they misbehave. You would constantly be spanking it.

A balcony is no place for any animal to live. That would be considered cruelty, based on the fact that you're basically exposing your pet to the elements and you could be sentenced to fines, and jailtime for this.

I don't know where you live but monkeys are illegal to own in most states. Hawaii, Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oregon and Washington are currently in the process of passing legislation to ban the private possession of monkeys.

Health Concerns:

Human cold sores, can kill smaller monkeys like marmosets and tamarins. While macaques can carry herpes B, a potentially fatal virus to humans. Most people are infected through bites or scratches. Other deadly and infectious diseases include: Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and Simian Herpes B

These health and safety hazards associated with exposure to monkeys prompted the CDC in 1975 to prohibit them from being imported into the United States for use as pets.

Aggression:

In an attempt to establish dominance, monkeys may attack their human owners. Attacks may also occur for no apparent reason at all.

- Zoos don't take former pets.

Please weigh heavily what you're thinking. Keeping a wild animal in captivity is not in your or the animal's best interest, and will be potentially harmful to both you and the animal itself.

I would suggest that you get a cat, but keep the poor thing indoors. I've included a few links for more information on the topic.

Monkeys require a lot of room, space and cash. Don't count on one living on your balcony for very long before you see cops outside your house. They may not be legal where you are (most likely not) or either that or you need a permit. Those cost money too. Now, a cat would be a little better, but no balcony.

I would get a cat, Monkey's are Not pets.
Monkey's have a tendency to try anything once.
Very inquisitive minds and being in a flat it would become bored very rapidly, which would lead to a complete new meaning of lets play.

Monkeys are a little hard to come by, and I think they're pretty messy. Get a cat, mine has never chewed any electrical cords, unless I'm moving them around and the cat wants to play.

I would get a monkey and a dog. Then you can have the monkey ride the dog. Real cool. Just don't let the monkey grab the dogs toungue. Dogs can't talk the. Oh yea, if you do get a monkey, don't spank your monkey in public. There are laws about that.

Dont get a monkey, thats so cruel, it'll masturbate in front your mum and steal all the things it sees you touch ie, remote controls,phones keys etc, your life would be hell, not to mention that the monkeys life would be worse being trapped in a flat til it dies.

I would tell you to go for a cat... although i don't like cats much but at least they are less messy than the monkeys which are lovely but not to be at home. Unless you get a little one!

Wooooooooooooooow a monkey would be a really fab pet you could plant loads of trees in ur little flat and make it like a jungle.
