how do catholics jusitfy taking moral leadership from a nazi? Should he receive any respect for supporting the holocaust, just cause he said he's sorry? Would he still be sorry if his side had won the war?

Because Catholicism bases doctrine on man rather than God... Read in the huge books on their doctrine. Also, if you see the abhorrent acts of former popes, you'll see why they have no problem with having a former nazi as current pope.

Do you think that every draftee in the Nazi German Army was a Nazi? If you do then you are very naive. The Pope and his family were not Nazis.

Just hope and pray that you do not have to make a decision to live and fight for a government you do not believe in or be executed.

Do you believe that every German citizen was guilty of the holocaust. Even if they could do something about it, most did not even learn about the "final solution" until the war was over.

I know of some US soldiers that joined up eagerly to fight in Afghanistan after the World Trade Center attack. But now they have to fight in Iraq, a war that they do not think is just.

You and I live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1940s Germany. I suggest you do not be so quick to judge others.

With love in Christ.

Look, Joseph Ratzinger(now Pope Benedict XVI) was only a child(14 yrs of age)when he was enlisted in Hitler's Youth.

A teacher encouraged him to join, telling him it would be good for his intuition, etc. Which child does not take the advice from a teacher that he/she respects?

Ratzinger defected from the Hitler Youth, before WWII ended.

In the decades since the Second World War, he did much to make up for that black mark on his past, & the Jewish leaders of the world, respect him as a Pope.

Just think about it: If everyone was judged by their actions as a child or adolences, we would **ALL** be in big trouble!!;-0
