Oh sweetie, tell me you are NOT talking about a clothing iron! We arent in the 50's anymore..
Use a straightner ALL THE TIME! I have a Vidal Sasson straightner and is the best I have ever seen.
But yes, to answer your question, straightning does cause damage. And heat product to your hair does.
I have used THERMASILK for when I know I am going to damage my hair. It makes your hair so soft and silky AFTER you have damaged it. The person that cut my hair commented that it was in exelent condition for heat damage.
So try THERMASILK.. and not ironing it with a clothing IRON
PS: if your hair is REALLY thick and wavy, like mine, go over a two inch strand of hair AT LEAST 5-6 times, brushing it everytime you go over it.

ironing ur hair is really bad i do it everyday just about and i have very little hair now and it is very thin if u do it buy urself a professional flat iron like the CHI it works really good for any type of hair and will make ur hair fully straight even if it is wavy and thick. just make sure u buy some kind of hair product to protect from the heat as well the sales person should be able to help u with that, trust me i use a conair til this day and i cant stop cuz im addicted after awhile tho ur hair gets used to it and u dont need to do it as much especially with the chi i recomend doing it only everyotherday since it stays pretty straight. and dont use a house iron that just makes ur hair brittle and shineless!

yes it is.. irons get too hot for hair the normal flat irons for hair are set to a limit so that the important ions and nutrients in the hair are not damaged where as the regular iron doesn't abide to these precautions as well on the steam setting can burn your scalp or burn your hair if you want a professional look go to a Sally's beauty supply store or some other and purchase a ceramic flat iron this leaves your hair flat and shiny when used trust me anyone can use it and it will not damage your hair. a side note if you still want to use an iron set it on medium to low and don't use it with wet hair

Well when i was in high school which was only 2 years ago girls in one of my classes said that they ironed there hair and i was like are you serious. But i use flat irons and i don't think that it's like using an iron. Irons get hotter than flat irons are set to a certain temperture so they only get but so hot. But either way heat is not that good for anyone's hair anyway.

ironing your hair is the same thing as straightening it..no its never good to IRON your hair...its not even good to straighten it..putting that much heat on your hair is damaging it....theres this stuff made by bed head and paul mitchell (go to your local beauty supply store to find it) that is to put in your hair when its damp...blow dry it then straighten it...it should be alot more straight then usual...i have the same problem with my hair..very hard to get straight...try to find the paul mitchell stuff particularly thats what i use it costs about 14 dollars for a small bottle but its worth it if you want your hair to look like that..dont ever iron your hair though..alot of stuff could go wrong in ironing it

I'd just use a ceramic flat iron, it's probably healthier for your hair then a regular iron. Just put hair protectant in it to keep moisture in your hair when you use the flat iron.

If you iron your hair while its wet, it causes split ends because it toasts your hair. Now, if you iron your hair dry, there is no problem with that.
If you iron regularly, you might consider using a ceramic iron to prevent burnt hair, or a moisturizer for your hair when you are using a regular iron.
I used to iron my hair regularly using a ceramic iron and it didn't ruin my hair. But since its very time consuming, I just had my hair rebonded.

ironoing u're hair would be a bad idea.it will make u're hair dry and thin,it will ventually start to break.i have hair like yours, tall, curly, thick and wavy.i use a blow dryer with a comb attached just make sure to use a good moisturizer after that prevents breakage.flat iron is something like a curling iron only flat
