im looking at grills and i think i have setteled on the one i want. it seems to my simple mind that cast iron burners would last longer than the stainless type. especially since i have replaced the stainless burners on my present grill 2 times in 6 years (i grill alot). any help out there?

The cast iron ones last longer but require maintenance. Basically, at the end of every season, you need to scrub them down and degrease them, to keep them functioning.

In my opinion I would most likely choose cast iron. However, these days of low quality manufacturing I am skeptical to recommend one over the other. The key to your best grill choice should be the warranty. Compare the warranty of the burners. If a company has faith in their burners for 5 years VS 3 years... need I say more?

Do you store your grill in a garage or inside? Doing so will greatly increase the overall life expectancy of your grill and it's parts. Some people COVER the grill they store out in the open air. Covering isn't a good idea as it makes the grill retain moisture under the cover which makes for rusty burners.

For me, there is no "end of the season" that would precipitate me tearing the grill apart and cleaning it as I keep mine in tip top shape year round.

Depending on your budget I highly recommend Weber Genesis Silver B unit!

cast iron grills have more heat that gets stored up in the actual grill part, which is better for cooking, just preheat it. It then kind of spreads the heat around throughout the metal, so even with uneven flames the heat is more even. Stainless is easier to clean. Kind of what you are more interested in. I personally choose cast iron.

extra perfect grills comprise heavy-duty grates made from stainless-metal, porcelain-enameled metal or porcelain-enameled forged iron. %. them up and evaluate the burden. Heavier potential thicker cloth, and thicker cloth potential that's going to very last more. The cooking grates on the perfect grills are in my view welded porcelain-enameled metal or stainless-metal.

I prefer cast iron. I believe it transmits heat more evenly. It will rust, though, so you have to be sure to keep it good and greasy in between uses.
