Probably arthritis if the pain disappates somewhat as you use your hand during the day. If the pain gets more severe and the joints are hot to the touch, then you may have gout. Gout is caused by the body having to much uric acid in it. The uric acid forms crytals that look a lot like burrs. They float free and settle in you joints and the prickly parts irritate the joint, causing extreme pain. If you have gout, you'll need to change you diet and/or take medicine to help your body control the uric acid. As with arthritis, which gout is a form of,, once you have it, you have it for life.
