Unhappily, that's a complicated question. Commandment Number 5 says 'Thou shalt not kill.' If we take that literally, then we should all be vegetarians. Yet Jews still eat lamb at Passover, so that can't be right. Thus a certain amount of interpretation and inference is necessary, which is annoying. Going back to the text shows that execution was okay - even mandated - as punishment for certain crimes. The Jews still went off and killed other people (with God's blessing) in battle, so it's also okay for soldiers to kill their enemies in combat. Murder, however, was still considered wrong and against God's laws. Extrapolating off of that, it's probably also wrong to hire someone to murder your enemies for you.
Of course, just when we think we've got the thing all figured, this Jesus person has to show up and make things complicated again. While it seems that sacrifice and the eating of meat are still okay, other standards have changed! While he doesn't technically outlaw execution or warfare, he still implies that they're wrong. Refusing to stone the adulterous woman and healing the priest's servant's ear! Such peaceful ways seem contrary to tradition. So I guess the answer really depends on how Christian you want to be. Nevertheless, when it doubt, it's probably safer not to kill. As certain Pharisees probably discovered to their detriment at some point.

It is breaking the 10 Commandments and commandment number 6. It is also a sin to pay someone to kill your enemy because you are still intending to kill the person.

1. You'll go to jail for it.
2. Now if you get away with murder, either one you commit or a hit you pay for, then there's always the afterlife you have to contend with.
3. But maybe there's a revenge seeker that might come after you.
4. Or the dead guy will come to haunt you.
5. Or you'll feel so guilty you'll go crazy like in Macbeth.
6. Whatever the case, you'll always live in fear knowning that you have a secret that can bury you.
7. There you go, you could get balckmailed.
8. Can you think of anything else?
9. Just ignore your enemy, that's the worst "death."

There is a huge difference between kill and murder.
The 10 commandments is refering to murder. It is ok to kill defending yourself or someone else. It is not ok to murder. What our military does is not (typically) murder. It is killing. As an individual they are not doing this for purely selfish personal gain.

its a sin to murder, not necessarily to kill.
and I'm rather certain that it would apply to hiring an assasin, but then again, this is just another demonstration of why we need an oral law.
