Some people (men and woman alike) will have hair that thins with age. It can be from a few different factors. Does your Mom take medications that effect her hair loss? Does she blow-dry her hair or tease it alot? Is she under alot of stress? If this is a problem for her that bothers her she can go to a doctor or get advice at a free clinic. She can always wear a hairpiece or wig. There are many nice ones available.

Hair loss depends on the person. It can also be affected by diseases and other variables but different people lose hair at different times. It could very well be that it's just because of her age and that it is completely natural or it could be that she has some disease or an unhealthy diet/lifestyle or something of that nature.

It could be. After 50 all of my hair got much thinner, baby fine, so it's tough to keep it from breaking. It did not happen in spots though.

Womens hair does get thinner as they age. However I believe it is in your genes. This will determine how much hair you will have and the texture.
