Well I think im a good person i try to live my life as best as i possibly coud. I think im genorus caring, kind and loyal to all the important people in my life. I try to live my life as best a person as i possibly can and not expect anything back out of it. My mom says im not "saved" becasue i dont buy into any religion. Im sorry but i just cant be easily convinced into any type of belief. Why would she even dare to try to knock me down as a person and negate all the positive things i devote myself to? I think im doing pretty good for myself compared to another person who claims to be christian at my age (by the way im 18) I think i wanna live my life and experience things the way i want before i even consider about any sort of religion.

ok thats my last rant for the day lol thanks for reading

Alrighty then, Dearheart! Settle down now and take a deep breath. There we go. Feel better? You're not "damned", branded or set apart. You're simply looking for God in a place where the mainstream won't find Them. As long as you are a good person, and are kind (okay, at least try, please?) then it shouldn't matter. Your Mom is simply worried about you as Moms always do. she does it because she loves you and she doesn't understand "why" you're looking outside the realms of organized religion or why you say you have "no" religion. Just be kind and things will usually take care of themselves. Blessings.

I'm not attacking you, but all your focus is on how good of a person you are. It is a very self-absorbed point of view. You are the center of your life and seem to be the most important thing in it. Technically, your mom is right... although "buying into a religion" will not make you saved either. Accepting Christ as the son of God and your saviour, and seeking forgiveness for your sins is what allows you to become saved. Giving yourself to the Lord is a selfless act and you receive a reward for doing so. Right now your personal desires and your self image are controlling your actions... not being humble before the Lord and showing humility. Turning away from selfishness and our sinful nature is hard to do. Becoming a true Christian will reward you in ways you have no concept of at this time.

I understand your youthful independence from any particular religion, I'm 57 and concider myself in many ways an independent thinker when it comes to religion. God will speak to you in his own time and way and the wisdom will come as slow or as fast as your taste for the truth. And what is the truth? It is true that you have to find it. No one can make you eat of the fruit. We have free will and that is a good thing. Would you want your mate to love you because someone told them too? Then why would Jesus? I believe he is the truth and the way. But then again I am 57 years old now and have had many years to see and hear God in so many aspects of my life. If I could tell you anything that might help it would be Just relax and enjoy the gifts that are all around for you and given for free. Starting with you. Your own gifts, weather it be talent, strength, strong will, a musical ear, a warm heart, skills or brains. Use the gifts, be grateful for them. Don't critisice others for not having them and remember when and if you look down upon another for not being as smart as you as skilled as you or as what ever as you tell yourself, there but for the grace of God go I. And he could just as easily take those gifts from you should you not want to appreciate. The Bible says Jesus saves, Jesus is the way, and that we should use Jesus as an example of how we should live our life. He doesn't have to grow on you when the time is right for you he will reveal himself to you and it won't be at all difficult for you to see him as the way and the truth and the light.

On the one hand, your mother shouldn't discount the good qualities you possess and how they play out in your day to day life.

On the other hand, God says that if we break even one of his laws during our lifetime then we are guilty and deserve to die.

Have you ever told a lie? That's bearing false witness.

Have you ever looked at a woman who wasn't your wife with lust in your heart? Jesus said that anyone who does that is commiting adultery in their heart.

Have you ever used the name of God or Jesus like a curse word when you were talking? That's known as blasphemy.

Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you even if it was just something small like a pen or a pencil? That's stealing?

If you were to break a law and come before a judge and tell him that it was just this one time and all of the rest of your life you obeyed the law, what would the judge say?

He would have to say "Sorry, but I'm sworn to uphold the law and so I have to find you guilty" right?

It's the same with God. But as it says in the Bible...

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

That's why I'm so grateful that my sin debt has been paid for by Jesus. Otherwise, as much as I try to live my life as a good person, I know that here and there throughout the years I've broken God's laws and He would have to find me guilty when I come before Him for judgement.

Everyone who hasn't trusted in Jesus is in the same boat. It's no use comparing yourself to other people because that's like being in the best cabin on the Titanic. Everybody is going down if they don't have Jesus as their "life preserver"!

At eighteen, and not knowing what being saved means, then you are lost and need to get on the right track. All the good deeds and caring will NOT get you through the Gates of Heaven. Only confessing you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, that he was born of woman, lived on this earth, healed the sick, raised the dead, made the blind see and that he was truly the Son of God, was crucified and raised on the third day and confess your sins to Him and repent (turn away from) them can you ever hope to go to heaven. God does not send people to hell. People send themselves to hell and the road is paved with good intentions. You do not have to be baptized to get to heaven. Consider the Thief on the Tree. Jesus assured him that he would be in Paradise that very night.

Being a "nice guy" will not get you to heaven, neither will believing in a religion. It is believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior and God as the Father and the Holy Spirit. It means understanding God's letter to us (Bible) and living by that. The idea you want to live "your way" first, is just the point. You need to live God's way. You also need to understand the difference between a relationship with God and religion. Religions are man-made. A relationship with God is a spiritual experience. There is a difference. Please find out what I am talking about and you will never regret it.

well I don't think she is trying to knock you down you sound like a great person her point is that being great doesn't get you into heaven. You should continue to do these great works of kindness but also consider that many you have a gift from god to care about other so much and that god is the gift of life because through him we have eternal life and so in your kind acts you may also be able to minister the word of god to people therefore possibly showing some one the way to eternal life and being part in giving eternal life gift.

To be saved, YOU MUST BE BAPTIZED IN JESUS NAME AND RECIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT AND KEEP LIVING THAT NICE LIFE YOU SAY YOU LIVE. Your mom is right, read the bible for yourself. Acts in particular, and you will get the jist. Acts actually talks about Cornelius who was a very good man; he feared God and did all that was right. That still didn't make him saved. He came to the realization and got baptized and received the spirit. So you are no exception. There are certain procedures that must be followed as set out by teh bible. When you have followed those procedures, then my friend you are saved!

a couple of things.... being "a good person" does not save your soul, compared to Jesus we ALL FAIL miserably (that is who you are to compare yourself to). Second... if you "don't buy into any religion" why do you care... there would be no heaven for you to get to... unless your not really sure. Jesus said that He was the way the truth and the life and no one goes to the Father except through Him... that is what your Mother is talking about.

The only way you are considered not saved is if you have never prayed the simple "God, please come into my heart and be the lord of my life." prayer. Going to church every Sunday is not being saved! That prayer and that prayer alone is all God asks of you...he will do the rest. U all of a sudden will find your good natured self wanting to be more involved in with God. 18 or 50 there will be a time when its to late to experience things our way!
