Beyond making it inaccesible, there are sprays that repel dogs... too strong for their sensitive snouts to take... a pepper spray will do the trick nicely but there are other alternatives...sprinkle a bit of chile powder in the garbage and your dog will think twice the next time. also try NOT to throw food stuffs that would entice the "walking olfactory lobe" to tip over the garbage and "scavange:" Put waste food in the "disposal" instead. If you don't have a disposal, then use newpaper to absorb any liquids and dispose the remaims daily in the outdoor trash.

Put the garbage can in a place where your dog can't reach untill you get home. Thats what I do with my dog. Good luck!

Move the garbage somewhere else where the dogs can't get at it, or put a lid on the trashcan.

Put your garbage in a cupboard and then get a child protective clip, that way they can't open it with their noses.

get a garbage can that has a lid and if he still gets in then put something heavy on top :)

lock it get one that you can only open on put it in a room like the bathroom where the is not a loud anyway

get one of those metal cans with the lid where you open it with a foot pedal - it works for me
