Here are my favorite places! Heck, I love that city! It's my favorite place on earth.
1. L'arc de Triumphe - It's amazing that Napoleon had his men build this thing by hand. It's a wonder to check out. Don't be weak and take the elevator to the top. Hike the stairs and then look over Champs d'Elysse from the top.
2. Sacre Couer - What a beautiful church. All I can say is wow!
3. Musee d'Orsee - The world's largest collection of impressionistic art. The museum use to be the original Paris train station.
4. Louvre - You'll need a few days to cover the whole thing. It's absolutely amazing. What a collection of art, artifacts, sculptures, and history.
5. Napoleon's Grave - Located in the Military Museum. There is so much history to be learned here.
6. Eiffel Tower - no explanation necessary. Goto the top twice, once in the day time, and once at night! They are both an amazing experience.
7. Notre Dame - One can see God's majesty in the place. The stain class windows are absolutely amazing.
8. La Madelaine - This is the meeting place for the French Revolutionists. In the Catacombs, you will see the tombs of Rousseau, Delacroix, and other heroic French Revolutionists.
9. Pompidou - Modern Art museum, the building it's self is a work of art!
10. La Seine - There is a wooden bridge that crosses the river. It's customary to have a picnic on the bridge during sunset. It's quite romantic. Buy a bottle of wine, some cheese, a loaf of bread, and some meat. It's such a relaxing evening with a beautiful view!
11. Old Opera House - This is one of the most amazing buildings I have ever seen. Words cannot describe how amazing this thing is.
12. Concorde - A gift from the Egyptians. It's in the center of two major roads. It's wonderful for pictures!
13. Just get lost in Paris. When I wasn't at work, I would walk the streets and purposely get lost. It was such a thrill to discover the city.

been thr for a four day trip last month. was an awesome experience.
Favourite thing? hmmm i wud specify things depending on the time.
If it is a weekend, go to Versailles. Though not in Paris was the best thing I saw on that trip. during weekends they have special arrangements in the gardens.
Spend the evening at the Notre Dame cathedral around 5 that is when they have the mass. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
Sunset : Sacre Couer. The church is just beautiful and the view of Paris is also enjoyable. Atop the Eiffel was fun too but nothing beats Sacre Couer.
Apart from this spend time anywhere. There are a zillion things in Paris. I am yearning to go there again to check out on things I missed.
To sum up Sacre Couer or Versailles. Take your pick.
PS: Louvre is good but just tooooooo big to be seen in a day. So didn't really enjoy it.

I've been to Paris 6 times, currently planning my 7th trip. It's difficult to pick just one favorite in Paris. The whole city is magnificent...the history, the architecture, the people, the food, the museums. Wonderful.
I do love the Louvre. It's a huge place and I could spend my entire trip wandering amongst the plethora of magnificent artwork, from Venus de Milo to Mona Lisa to The Marriage at Cana. Love it!
I also love Montmartre. I love the atmoshphere up there. The view from the steps of Sacre-Coeur is beautiful.

The Louvre and the Muse Orsay are the must-see art museums, with the famous paintings and statues like Winged Victory and the Mona Lisa. The Rodin Museum is also excellent. You have to picnic at the base of the Eiffel Tower near sunset, and see the light show after dark. Bread, cheese, and wine is fine. (Don't worry about the soldiers with the automatic weapons...) Going up the tower is also fun, but crowded. See the catacombs, the underground tombs from the middle ages. Walk or take a tourist boat along the Seine. Don't talk and you can imagine people think you're French. (As if!) Try your high school French on the staff at a bakery when you buy bread so fresh it's warm. Yum! It's okay to eat a thin loaf as you walk the streets, again pretending people think you're French.

Walking through Ile de la Cite at night, seeing the Eiffel Tower at night. Sorry, that's two things, but your question is a hard one!
And croissants.
Let me take another stab at it:
My favorite thing in Paris is the food. Does that count as a single thing?

I like St. Michele St (lots of shops & estaurants)
Notre Dame is great.
Rodin museum for sculpture
The Louvre is so huge, but still worth going to.
For Impressinaist Art - go to Musee D'Orsee - an old trains tation.
Take a boat ride on the Seine
Go to some the really old churches - lots of wonderful art, architecture - there are some really, really old churches there
Champs E Lese of course is kiind of neat.
But take one of those red bus tours - you can see a lot and cover a lot of territotory in a short time & get on and off and you choose - not expensive either.
