It's the same with my two. I have a husky and she's always quiet, won't bark even when someone knocks on the door. My shepherd is protective and will bark if she hears odd noises or someone knocks. I guess some dogs are natural guard dogs and some aren't.

I have dogs and was raised with dogs. This is how it goes, there is always one dog more nervous than the other. The more dominating dog female or male will not be the one to do the barking. That job will be for the other dog. In the meantime, the dog who does not bark is the one that will actually take care of business if needed. I have seen it happened numerous times with my parents dogs. They had 4 and the smallest being more nervous did all the barking while the others did the protection.

Some dogs are like that.

We used to have a collie-mix dog who was great friends with the neighbor's spitz. Our dog never barked, but he did. The one time I heard her barking was when a tree fell in the back yard that a drunk had hit some months ago- and she quieted down after I took a look and told her it was all right.

Some breeds of dogs don't bark. Others are just shy. All dogs have different personalities. It's totally normal. I'd be glad for a non-barking dog. xD

Some dogs do not bark as much as others. If you just got the dog, it may have been debarked, or a Basenji does not bark. I have a couple of Chihuahuas who rarely bark.

All dogs have their own unique personality. EX: One dog might like water and one might not. It just depends on your dogs personality. One of your dogs might like barking and the other might not...

Most likely the one who barks is the dominant one in the pack, and the other is more submissive, therefore, letting the other be "boss."

Some dogs like to tell the world about it, others don't. Doesn't sound like a problem as long as everything else is OK.

Just like people.....some are showy/talkative, others are quiet and take it all in.....it is the dog's personality and preference.
