Strong Atheist: "There is no god". (You have a reson not to believe)

Weak Atheist: "I do not believe god exists" (never found a reason to believe)

I'm a strong atheist concerning all 'known' concepts of god. I'm a weak atheist in relation to a non-involved god.

wanted to add something: I'm also not so sure if there is a need to apply the terms strong and weak. We don't say we are agnostic towards things like the tooth fairy, gnomes, or pink unicorns...we just don't believe in them and leave it at that. Of coarse anyone would start to believe in any of the above if they found convincing evidence. We don't believe in fairy tale creatures because there is no reason to think they are real. This is the same way I view god...a fairy tale creature. Yet, of coarse I would change my mind if new evidence revealed itself. Even a strong atheist would have to change his mind in such a case. So , I actually won't even bother with the strong/weak thing unless asked to pick a label.

edit: by your definitions...I'm a strong atheist...I have reasons for why I don't believe. That would also make most atheists strong atheists..even the ones who describe themselves as weak atheists.

I thought strong meant "I know there isn't a god of any sort and can prove it" and weak meant "I'm pretty certain there isn't a god but don't think I can adequately prove that there is not one." That's why I said I was strong towards certain types and weak towards other types of god concepts.

I am a strong atheist. I understand that "weak" atheism is the more logical philosophical position. However, I am a weak atheist concerning:

The Tooth Fairy
Zeus
Mithra
Mothra
King Kong
Donkey Kong
Santa Claus

and have just decided to add

God
Jesus

to that list

If by "strong" atheist you mean having a strong conviction in the non-existance of a Creator, Supreme Being, or any other kind of deity, then YES, I am a very strong atheist.

There is only one kind of Atheist. A fence sitter is called an agnostic or chickensh!+ Atheist. Agnostic is better than being a delusional superstitionist (believer), but an Atheist can be nothing but a committed non-theist.

Not obvious at all; since, there is no such thing as an atheist, because the word atheist is made up of "a theist". And a "theist" is a believer in "theos" (God). Therefore, there is no such thing as an atheist.

It's like a painting saying it doesn't believe in the artist. It can not believe all it wants; by the very existence of the painting, the artist exists.

The painting can say it doesn't believe in the artist; but, the artist very much believes and loves the painting, therefore, he created it.

"O Son of Being

I loved thee, therefore I created thee. If thou lovest Me not, My love can in no wise reach Thee."

--From "The Hidden Words" of Baha'u'llah

God loved you beFORE He created you. His love for you was the reason WHY He created you. As with the sun, if you choose to remain in the dark, and deny the sun, you are only deprived of the light and warmth of the sun, thereby stunting your physical growth. In the same way, you can deny God, and deprive yourself of the spiritual growth, love and knowledge that comes from Him, thereby stunting your spiritual growth. He still sends it to us, but we are unable to receive it 'til we turn to Him.

He didn't create us automatons or robots, that we MUST accept Him. We have the choice to turn toward Him or away from Him. If we choose to turn away, it doesn't affect Him; deprives us. Joy is to know Him. A continual high nothing of this world can give. That joy is one of the reasons religious people are religious. There's no greater payoff. Otherwise, why would we waste our time on religion? We've got better things to do with our time, just like you. It's because we receive more than this world can offer. THAT'S why we give of our energy, money and time to build the Kingdom of God on earth, as it already exists in heaven (heaven being a heavenly state of mind or condition of being. Hell being a hellish state of mind or condition of being--not a physical up or down place.)

I don't consider myself a weak athiest, yet I don't have all the answers. I once emailed a preacher back and forth, sort of like a debate, and I couldn't really answer some of his questions. He had some good points. But I still feel like I am in the right. I just can't always explain it.

Umm I know this question isn't for me but Swedenborg said that if you read his books with an honest heart you will believe the Bible. Swedenborg has a good reputation if you google the web but read his original writings - not secondary sources.
