I think it is admirable that you want to serve your country, but if you are a single parent and are doing this because you need the adventure, it's selfish. You should have thought about that before your kids. If you have a father that is in the kids' life you should discuss this with him not us. Your kids need at least one steady part of their life. With the guard being deployed overseas I would think you should think about that possibility and what it may do to your family. If you are doing this for extra money, there are better ways.

The nationwide guard pays on your classes, and is likewise a good resume builder, for once you get out. the military Reserves are very similar, they actually have an decision the position try to be stabilized for 2 years. meaning they won't be able to installation you for 2 years which promises time to end extra college. With this decision notwithstanding you in common words recieve a $10,000 bonus rather of $20,000. The Reserves actually have a Bernard Law Montgomery G.I. bill Kicker which promises an extra $350 a month only for being a scholar. The Reserves will also pay your classes and also you also promote swifter in the Reserves. it really is an same drilling agenda because the guard, a million weekend a month, 2 weeks a year.

No you shouldn't. My boyfriend was in the National Guard and was sent to Iraq for 1 year. And his unit is most likely getting deployed again. Think about what your kids would go through if you were gone for a year. If you died overseas? It was awful just for me and I was a 22 year old girlfriend. I saw so many parents leave their kids the day my bf left, and it was depressing. Serving our country is an awesome thing to do, but you should worry about your children first.

I definitely do. Don't do it. You'll regret it. Many children are now left without a mother or a father because after their parent joined the national Guard, they were put in combat and never came home. How much do you really love your kids. Obviously not much if you're going to let yourself get suckered into this. It's not worth it. Let someone else do it.

It is my understanding that It is required that a single parent have legal documentation to give temporary custody or guardianship of the children to another family member or trusted friend in case of the military parent is required to deploy or in the worse case scenario is killed during a deployment. The documentation must be kept up to date and any changes in the arrangements must also be kept up to date. The documentation is checked at a minimum of once a year and discrepancies in this paperwork could have severe repercussions (to include removal from service) Several people I know of, were refused entry into the service because they could not (Or refused to) get these documents.

Woah, 28 is one of the older ages to be joining up. And three kids don't raise themselves. I personally think you'd be serving your duty to your country better by raising the lil ones to be acceptable members of society.

Are you married or a single parent?
I might think twice if single, but other than that go for it!
