Here's a link to a random number generator:
http://www.random.org/nform.html
Grab a bible and use the RNG to give you a book, chapter, and verse. If you want, you can give a little "prayer" in the hopes that you'll get something relevant.
When you're done, post your verse here. I'll start it off:
Nehemiah 10:39
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.
What do you get?
The faithful are invited to share in this experiment as well.

Ratboy: One interpretation of your numbers comes up as Joel 2:5
Like the noise of Chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
Also, am a wrong in assuming that most atheists own bibles?

Julia: I refuse to take criticism from the faithful for taking things out of context. Plus, you're missing the point.
Gollum: Excellent, as always.

claypigeon makes an interesting point. If a hundred people try this and they all get OT verses would that say anything about Christianity?

I set it to create one random intiger in one column and got 36..don't know which of the books to use with that one...so I ran it again for 3 random integers in 3 columns...so at least it would create numbers to pick a book, chapter, and verse:
9192100
There are only 67 books in the bible....so that doesn't really apply either.
i could use 1 samule 1:9, I guess...since that's the only one that would work with the numbers created:
1:9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

You're asking atheists to "grab a bible"?
The closest bible to *this* atheist is sitting in a drawer in a room at the Marriott down the street.
Anyway, I ran the generator and since I have no clue how bible books and verses are numbered, I'll just give you the first 5.

Maybe you can look up the verse and post it for me?

Okay, it took me a few tries to get anything that didn't have either too many chapters or too many verses to work. I generated 100 random integers from 1-66 in 3 columns. The first valid one was 49 4 31, which is Ephesians 4:31
"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice."

Hi, Wrath.
Observation - all the scriptures being cited are Old Testament. Could this indicate a flaw in the system?
I don't do 'random' Bible readings, but I did hear a good joke about it once.
A Christian man, too lazy and undisciplined to study the Bible methodically, was in the practice of whipping his Bible open in the morning every day and trying to spend that day living the verse his finger landed on. One Sunday, his Pastor taught that we should study the Bible methodically, and allow the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds to the words, so we would not offend God or His Holy Spirit.
The following Monday, after he had reasoned away that he didn't need to study methodically, he whipped his Bible open, and his finger landed on the verse "And Judas went out and hanged himself." Certain that this was a fluke, he closed his Bible, whipped it open again, and promptly read "Go thou and do the same."
He began his methodical study on Tuesday.
God gave us humor as well.
Oh, and by the way, the guy who raped Dinah, his household, and all of the men in his city were put to death by Dinah's slightly-pissed family. Sure am glad I don't live in Old Testament days, cause I'm sure there are rapists in just about every city in the world.

I found Julia's answer interesting. Every preacher I've ever heard has said, "In chapter xxx, verse xxx, the bible says", taking it completely out of context. Sometimes they only use 1/2 of a verse. But I guess atheists aren't supposed to do what preachers do every day.

Don't experiments usually have some type of hypothesis or at least some goal in mind to prove something?
This will only prove that we atheists end up spending more time in the bible than christians do. And we already know that.

Hi.
I got Job 38:34 (after skipping a few numbers that were too high). It reads:
38:34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
Actually I really like it. It's very much like a zen koan. I'm going to go meditate on it now.

Ezekiel 23:30 -

And yes, I, an atheist, do own a Bible. And a book of Mormon (just out of curiosity). I'm planning on getting a Koran as well :).

1 Corinthians 3:3
You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men.
the other one that it could have been is:
Numbers 6:3
he must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or from other fermented drink. He must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins.
Strange that I should get that verse considering that I am underage.
