It sounds to me like your child has bronchiectasis. Bronchiectasis is the dilation of the bronchi and bronchioles, which is chronic in nature and results from chronic respiratory infections which cause the inflammation and damage to the walls of the airways. The hallmark of bronchiectasis is large amounts of and chronic production of purulent (pus) sputum. There is nothing you can do for the scars but you can help control the severity of bronchiectasis by chest physiotherapy (CPT) where you percuss the chest walls to help move the secretions under the effects of gravity, aerosol therapy, bronchodilator therapy, mucolytics, antibiotics, oxygen therapy, and expectorants.
You must also look at the environment of the child. Why is this child getting repeated attacks of pneumonia? Is the child allergic to something in the environment such as animals, grass, mild dew, smoke? Was the child born prematurely and placed on a ventilator/oscillator at birth and sustain barotrauma to the lungs?

I think I would figure out why this child is getting pneumonia so much, that can be life threatening. Does your child have asthma? Has your child been seen by a pulmanary specialist (for children)? You can't do anything about scars on lungs, just like scars on skin, they will always be there. The best thing to do is preventative ...prevent the pneumonia from happening again.

See your doctor. See your doctor. Anyway, I sang professionally for many years to help with college expense - Now I have these HUGE healthy lungs - I'd say get the kid involved with singing and keep at it. BUT

SEE YOUR DOCTOR!! SEE YOUR DOCCTOR!!
