Because atheist that live in this country are called AMERICANS.
Therefore as responsible Americans they see a need for us to become aware of the importance of the Separation of Church and State. An issue that the founding fathers of this great nation have embraced and for good reason. The separation of church and state is not to protect religion from government instead it is to protect government from religious fanaticism. They don't want to see the erasure of God, as you said they don't believe in one...but they do believe in the original concept that our founding fathers had. As a Christian but most importantly as an American....I Thank Them for Reminding Us.

They don't want the idea of God crammed down their throats everywhere they look. On money, in school's, inside a drawer of every hotel. They want a total separation of religion...any type of religion. They don't care if YOU believe in God just don't imprint your beliefs on everyday things that they have to use or see. I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic, but I can see their point. What if it said In Satan We Trust? Wouldn't that offend you? Why? Because it's not your religion...

I'm not afraid, I just find it offensive and suppressive of my beliefs. Why are you so eager to keep it? What does it do for you? As you said, it is our money, and it shouldn't only reflect the beliefs of some of us. Currency is also created and designed by the government, and in the Constitution all citizens are guaranteed the freedom of religion. Why argue against constitutionally protected rights? Don't you love your country?

What are you talking about? The "In God We Trust" on money is hardly one of the battles that we're fighting. In the grand scheme of things it's no more offensive than the Chinese Zodiac on take-out menus or the fact that "Thursday" is named after the Norse god Thor.

Because they don't believe in God but every time they see those words "In God We Trust" They grow a little more uncomfortable, a little more scared that there might truly be a god. And what will happen to them when they die and have to face that god. That's what I think.

Because Americans aren't all Jews, Christains, or Atheists. There are additional religions practiced in the USA. Maybe you've heard of Islam, Buddism, Taoism, etc.?
But most of all, religious references on American currency is not allowed per the USA Constitution that says "separation of church and state."

Hmm...cause they just don't want a meaningless phrase on their currency? Doubt they are "afraid" of anything. Also maybe they don't want the government promoting religion. How about we say "In Buddha We Trust" or "In Allah We Trust" or "In Jupiter We Trust"?

I am glad somebody Finlay said that. All the people that say having prayers in picture frames at hospitals, commandments in front of court rooms and people praying in public bothers them and offends there rights is just wrong. what about my rights to practice my religion and what about my rights to read prayers in picture frames on walls. When it comes to that then we as Christians have no rights its sad in a country that was founded on Christ.

What would happen if it is not on there? Will all the money disappear? Or will its value be less?
