Today I heard that the Ceo of Wal-Mart H. Lee Scott is going to transform his company into a greener one. He made some pretty bold statements like: He wants to cut back greenhouse emission, work on fuel efficiency in his truck fleet, reduce his solid waste by 25% and more. He even screened Al Gore’s new movie,” An Inconvenient Truth” for employees.
Propaganda? A forward thinking approach to marketing? A true environmental conscience among conglomerate giants?
I am happy they are making this step for whatever reason and I hope other companies follow their lead, but I still can’t help wondering what they are up to?
Your thoughts?

And here is why I choose the religion category… Since Wal-Mart is one of the most outwardly religious companies I am aware of then why do a lot of their outfits look so slutty?

For the record I have never worked at a Wal-Mart. Not that there is anyhting wrong with that, it just seemed a waste of all the money I spent at U.T. Go Horns!

It's ALL about marketing. You seem intelligent, yet they managed to at least begin to fool you. They see where the money is going and adjust inventory accordingly. This time however they are having to reach out of their comfort zones as the general public wises to the ways of the rest of the world. I surely wouldn't count on WalMart to make any strides towards bettering the world unless it's a side effect of lining their pockets.

Walmart has had a lot of bad publicity of late. Four issues come to mind. 1. They claim to be buying American, but check the tags, most of their merchandise is from China or some third world country. Probably sweat shops using children. Also, taking jobs away from American workers. 2. Women do not receive the same pay for the same job.
3. When Walmart decides it is moving into a particular town, they cannot be stopped. They always find a way, driving small independent stores out of business.
4. Sam Walton stated that his main goal in life was to drive Mr. Kresge out of business. How moral and uplifting is that?

I don't know why there outfits are so slutty but I definitely agree and most of those outfits are geared More to young teens than anything else. Theses young teens need to learn some modesty not how to look like a slut. As for the saving on gas part I am not sure whats up with that but I hope it continues to make the prices go down

I worked in the jewelry dept at wal-mart, and they encouraged us to dress "attractively".
We didn't wear the smocks.
As for the Green issue--it's all for show.
Maybe they should invest all that money and energy in their employees, and in lowering prices, coz after all, isn't that why people shop there?
Not for their stand on pollution!!!!!!!!

interest Wal Mart clientele "Get the **** out of the following because i do not opt to artwork at present." not some thing wise or humorous yet when I worked there i'd grow to be bored to death in people piling all their **** on the checkout counters.

Wal-Mart is about making money. They have never helped anyone that they could not benefit from. If it cost them-they don't do it.

I imagine their trying to do damage control after all their bad publicity about stuff made in China by underpaid children and discrimination against women in the workplace.

But, whatever, I'm glad they want to do something.

Good idea overall, but what's with Al's movie? Now THAT'S propaganda. Maybe WalMart is trying to get Al elected and is trying to give Al's movie some credibility.

Any effort to green up a company deserves applause. If all companies made a small effort it would help alot.
