Salvation is "not of works, lest any man should boast". Ephesians 2:8,9,10
Good works are based on faith. It's not enough to just say, "I'm saved, I'm going to heaven". Salvation should make you want to do your best , live your best and give your best, to God, your family, your friends. James said , "Faith without works is dead".
Verse 8 of Ephesians points it out clearly

Assuming you are not fragmented, your actions should be an indicator of you faith and or beliefs. It is possible though, to be a hypocrite, or week willed. But still, it begs the question, if you "really" have faith, shouldn't your actions naturally correspond? Ideally action should an organic outpouring of purity from ones faith, with one being distinguishable from the other. Most people however are not whole, being conflicted. Not to mention the universe is a complex place, & questions like this can easily turn into a whole book. In compassion, I'll spare you that work, yet I still have that faith.

St. James believed that faith without works was not really faith at all. Works are a sign that we have faith. Works in and of themselves have little meaning in that they 'gain' us nothing. However, it is clear that there is balance here: Matthew Chapter 25 is quite clear that what we DO does matter to God......for whatever you did for the least----you did for me.

It all is caught up in the idea that our salvation is a free gift, totally unmerrited. BECAUSE OF the gift---not for gain, but for greatfulness---works should follow.

Faith without works is nothing. You can have all the faith in the world, but if you just wait around and do nothing, nothing is just what will happen. Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only. James 1:22

Good works will not get you in to heaven. You must be born again. You must accept Jesus as your personal savior. Believe that he died on the cross for all of you sins. You are saved by grace through faith. Just because you do good things doesn't mean that you will go to heaven. You must accept Jesus into your heart.

yes, but Jesus Christ said that it is by faith tat we are saved not by works so that any man can boast. basically, we has humans can never be good enough to work our way to heaven by doing good things and by being a nice person. and atheist can be a nice polite person, but that won't get them to heaven. Yes, actions do speak louder than words but just because u do something doesn't mean that your heart is in it 100%. y don't u contact me and we can talk more about it!!
God Bless!!!

First you have faith, and in appreciation you do works.
Could you imagine if the first disciples had faith in Jesus, but had decided to go back to their "regular" lives after he died? Thank God they did works or you and I wouldn't have a Bible to read.

You need one to do the other.
Faith without works is dead, and works without faith is fruitless.

I think so, yes.

But just because you believe in, say, the christian god, does not mean that you believe in the value of good works.
