Why does my dog consistently roll around on his back and make strange noises? Simply because it feels good or something else? He just started doing it a lot more often recently. He has a clean checkup at the vet, is bathed once a month or so.

Some dogs do acts like this for attention from the owner others because it feels good and or just as stated before to get a smell on them. Have you ever noticed your sniffing outside and then rolling in it? Same thing trying to cover up something and get it on them. As for the bathing issue once a month is fine if you bath once a week or even every other week that is fine also you just have to make sure you use a good and I mean good conditioner. Otherwise once a month is fine. If you feel they just need a tough up you can use a vinegar and water spray and wipe off. It Will help deodorize in between baths and also help with the PH of the skin.

Typically the behavior you're describing is believed to be your dogs way of saying they're very happy. Not just at that moment, but also with life in general.
It's also suggested, that it's a sign that they are comfortable with their surroundings and believe that they're safe. Primarily because they are showing their stomach and their throat in what is normally a show of submission to another member of their pack.
Depending on how long you've had your dog, you should be able to tell by the tone of the noises what kind of emotion they're expressing. My Boxer makes it very clear when she thinks there something that concerns her with quick seemingly random barks (often times loud enough to wake me from across the house, and when that doesn't work, she stands on my chest and tries again), but when I'm unlocking the door to come in her bark is much more controlled and typically just 3 to 4 barks. It's her way of saying "hello" to me when I come home.

Could be allergies, could be you have a strange dog. Ask your vet about dog allergies, but if he had a good check up recently I'd say he just likes to roll. Especially if he's a puppy. They love that. Also, make sure you have a good flea collar for him.

Sounds like your dog is feeling good ..It Summer Hes shedding more too..You can check for fleas but it sounds completely normal..Once a month is often enough to gve him a bath..I had a Itchy Dry skinned Dog years ago..When I took him to the Vet he asked how often I was bathing him..I told him At least Once a Week....(That was the problem) I was washing all the oil outta his coat , But he got into EVERYTHING!)I would just check his skin often watch for fleas, hot spots. ect..It sounds to me like hes just Happy!!!!

Well first you must understand, all that hair can cause itchies on him. So he rolls around scratching himself. Try playing with him while hes doing it. That gives good owner/dog bonding time. also if you have nails, try to see if you can get your nails to go through the fur and scratch him up and down. Brushing him might help as well.

Rolling on his back and showing you his belly is a common trait for a submissive dg. He may have accepted you as the alpha and is submitting to you...giving of the belly for rubs, and kisses and loving is another possibility - what kind of strange noises?

My dog did that all the time...I came to the conclusion that either he's got an itch that he can't reach or there's something on the floor...like a certain scent. If we sprayed Lysol for example, he'd roll all over. Crazy...

I believe dogs pride themselves on a certain standard of what we humans would call bath-worthy dirt. My dog does that and especially after her bath. I think they like to smell a certain way and we humans just keep interfering with it.

My sheltie does that. When shes in the bed she rolls on my husbands pillow. Practically molesting it. I think they do that to get our scents on them.

Also it might be a dry skin issue. And thats the way he scratches.
