My grandbaby ( age 2 1/2 ) was running a fell into the coffee table and now is getting a black eye and has a long streak down her cheekbone.

Black eyes are just bruises...as long as she isn't showing signs of concussion...dizzyness confusions, etc. she is probably all right. I've whacked myself numerous times and had several blackeyes. They are inpressive but generally no big deal.

Take her to the doctor. She is probably fine, especially if she was crying, and otherwise acting normally. But if she has a severe black eye you probably want to have her checked out for mild concussion or a cheekbone fracture.
At the least you want to call a doctor. Instead of asking for medical advice from a bunch of unknown strangers on a Yahoo message board.

Well I would take her to the doctor because it is wise to check for concussion. Kids run into things lots of times and get banged up in the face, my daughter had big lumps on her head a couple of times, and usually it's not too serious. But it's best to check with the doctor, because you may not be able to tell from outside.

At that age they can't vocalize discomfort or symptoms well. I would go to the doctor just to be safe. Hate to make a mistake with your precious grandbaby!

I would take her for x-rays. There's no way you can tell on your own if she has any broken bones.
