I have a cockateil who used to lay 3 or 4 sterile eggs every month. I would not recommened getting your bird a mate. Breeding birds can be very difficult and many birds die from egg binding. It is probably easier to enjoy your bird on her own.
You can take the egg out when she is not sitting on it or even leave it in the cage with her. My bird liked to play mommy to her fake eggs, but would get bored when she realized they were not going to hatch.
If your bird continues laying you may consider adjusting the time she spends in light. Laying eggs takes alot of energy, my baby who was always a runt couldnt eat enough to keep up with the amount of calories she needed to eat to keep laying so many eggs. It can also be a concern that your bird's bones will grow weak because her calicum is being used to make eggs. Since birds lay eggs when there is food availiable they are genetically programed to lay during the summer. Our birds never really expirence the seasons but many people create an artifical summer all year long.During the summer there is more sunlight so by turning off the lights earlier, many birds will quit laying eggs.
Good luck!

What I usually do is remove the egg. Only do this if you are sure it is not fertile, though!
I don't know if you have a male with your female, but if you remove the egg, they will often lay again after a few days - if you have a breeding pair, it may be fertile this time.

Let your bird raise the egg for a week or 2 preferably 2
dont take the egg away immidiatley it will stimulate her to lay more eggs and she will exhaust her calcium supply.
then after 2 weeks that take the egg way she may not let you but you should.
After this her behavior should return to normal
you can email me for more questions at fatwhale90@yahoo.com
I hope this helps
Best of Luck Joe

Well,if you take it out,be careful. She will bite you. They change temperements when they start laying. My female parakeet laid eggs every day and would freak out when I took them out.Since she was always biting me,and I didn't want to leave eggs in there to rot,I bought her a friend and decided to let them breed if they wanted to.Sadly,it never happened.Molly got eggbound and died from it.PAY ATTENTION to her.If she starts acting differently, look carefully to see if an egg is stuck. You can get the egg out,but she won't always live.We got the egg out of Molly, but she was damaged and died a couple of days later. So now I have a lonely male, and I think we're going to keep it that way.

My 3 finches always lay unfertile eggs, so I just take them out. If you leave them in, your bird might end up eating the eggs or knocking them on the floor, making a big mess.
