I am in the process of building my own PC, and I am strongly considering installing Linux XP instead of Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Never heard of Linux XP ... sounds tainted. Start with Ubuntu Linux or Knoppix Linux depending on your Unix skill level.

Ewww Linux XP .... wudda concept!

Update: From what I read, Linux XP started as a tounge in cheek joke, then someone got serious about it and tried to disguise Red Hat as something XP like. I still think it is a joke. I stick with my original recommendations

My Microslop XP hard drive crashed. I had a PCLinuxOS liveCDrom so, I put it in, and re-booted.

In 30 seconds, I was opening Firefox, and talking here! When I shut down, there are no hidden secret files on my computer!

It is now running about 8X faster than it did in Microslop XP.
I have NO virus.
There are NO exploits.
I don't have to run CrapCleaner, Shootthe Messenger, anti-virus AVG, Adaware, or spybotS&D!

Yes, I can play the hundreds of games, on the liveCDrom, plus, I can install in 20-40 minutes, and get 1400 Microslop games, that run 8X faster in Linux!

And, I will be repartitioning, reformatting, installing, that drive with ONLY http://pclinuxos.com I'm done with the vaporware, DRM, spying by the corporate bad guys, and threats of lawsuits for using a 'pirated' version, that I paid for (that includes about 25% of ALL Microsoft customers!) !!!

Linux XP Professional Edition is described as "a universal and secure operating system for Russian speakers designed for home and business use. It is based on freely available sources from Red Hat Linux and Fedora Core."

i would go for Linux that's wot i am running now
suse Linux
cost nothing
virus worry free
faster
always improving
most programs you would ever need for home free

only downfall would be not great for games at least not that i have experienced to date but that's probably wrong

Linspire is the only thing that may be called linux xp
that's a pay for os wouldn't bother.

It's simple. For office work, gaming and easy-to-use go for Windows XP(get some security software!)

For web hosting, OLD games, Security and programming, low cost and Low system resources: Linux.

Linux is catching up on software and ease of use... but most coperate developed software out there right now is developed for Windows XP.
