It can be done, but due to the increased blood supply, most vets will ask you to wait until the dog is no longer in heat. Also they will charge more if she is in heat, and the risk of bleeding both during and after the surgery is greatly increased.

The vets I have worked for would rather have spayed a newly pregnant dog than one that is in heat. Cats are no big deal either way, and it can depend on the size of the dog. A Maltese is a whole different story from a Lab.
You can always check with the vet and see what they say!

The vet can spay her, but it is not advisable, one she could hemorrhage to death. The risk are higher that something could go wrong. Plus her private parts will always stay big. If she goes thru her heat( three weeks) then wait two to three months then spay her. It will be less risky and she will be back to herself in no time., healing much faster etc. Dogs come into heat every 6 months.

Yes you can. It is about 2 times the cost. I had it done to my baby as I thought she was spayed and she went into heat. I was afraid that the dogs hanging out at my gate would jump the fence and hurt her. Get a good vet.

No, you can't, because the area has increased blood flow when your dog is in heat. So you have to wait until she's out of heat before you can spay her, because it's not safe (increased risk for bleeding and infection).

Wedo it all the time at the shelter I work out, In heat, Pregnant...Whatever...She will be out of heat as soon as sthe surgury is done..I have never noticed the vet having a harder time with the in heat dogs or Cats. You can call your Vet and Schedule for as soon as she comes out so if she gets knocked up the pups wont be visible and s/he wont charge you extra for that...That is kinda nasty!

in heat is different than being pregnant by far, if u want to avoid her getting pregnant and stop those irratating behaviors that come with being in heat than go for it. the sooner the better it is in the long run

Most vets will but it usually costs more due to the fact that everything is swollen and the surgery takes a little extra time so there is no excessive bleeding.
