I am shocked and dismayed by the responses others have given to this question. For goodness sakes, 9 years old is just a child!! Why can't we just let our children enjoy their childhood instead of pushing them into adulthood?? Let the boy enjoy being a child, and please DO NOT try to stifle his create expression by forcing him to adapt to what YOU (and others) seem to feel is appropriate. If the smell is an issue, there are many lovely car air fresheners that work just as well in pants.
I am still horrified that you feel the need to ask this question at all...what is next? Weaning the poor child from his mother's breast? No wonder our society is in such a state of disrepair!

Umm...... well I am not quite sure where to start with this question. First of all I am having a hard time understanding why a NINE YEAR OLD boy is till peeing and presumably pooping in his pants. Do you not see anything wrong with this, most children are potty trained before the age of 4. He is nine years old, do you realize that that is almost preteen, another couple of years and he will be a teenager. What is wrong with him that he still uses diapers? Have you told your doctor that your son is still in diapers? To me it sounds like he might have some sort of emotional or physical problem. You should talk to your doctor about this and have him checked out. And second what school has he been going to where they let him wear diapers? All public schools will ensure that he is potty trained, if he wears diapers to school, they are going to notice and trust me, you are going to have the school administration breathing down your neck to have him looked at by a doctor and he may even end up in special needs classes due to this. So please have him seen by a doctor as soon as possibly and try to get him to understand that this is NOT normal for a nine year old.

take him to the doctor he could have other problems, but when you send him to school and he sees that he is the only kid there that wears diapers. And i know it sounds bad but just dont put them on him anymore, when he starts going all over himself in the middle of school he will realize that its really embarassing, thats how you potty train a 2 year old. Just make sure they keep a change of clothes at school for him.

I'm not sure but I think you're being silly. Assuming that you've taken him to the Dr. and nothing is wrong, Stop Buying Diapers! If he's a normally developing child he'll get the hint especially when he's messy and wet.

You should use GoodNites. They are like underwear except they are made to be wet proof. They're suppose to be for night but you can use them during the day too. However, you don't really want him in this for the rest of his life.
I would just make him wear underwear and let him humiliate himself if he doesn't use the toilet.

Did you really mean 9 years old? At this age (assuming there are no dissabilities here) you need to try beating him. Sounds harsh but 9 years old??? Who changes his diaper?

Make it a game, get some fruit loops which are different colors. For every color he gets a different reward...this will also help with the aiming issue. Good Luck!

It sounds like your child has Aussburgers Syndrome.
This is a CLASSIC sign....
You are going to have to talk to the school, so they will know how to deal with him and the other kids, when the kids say, (and they will) that he smells funny..etc.
This is something that your son and your family will have to deal with. it's aggrivating and embarrassing.
Spanking or punishment will not/does work.
Does his Pediatrician know about this?
Talk to him, and you could ask him to schedule an MRI at the hospital for your son.
Unless there is something PHYSICALLY wrong with your child, then only TIME and your sons choice to stop it, will make him stop.
