The SC400 is a good bet, a very reliable and well built car. The only drawback would be the gas mileage, and perhaps repair bills which can come at a premium cost.

Lexus is a great car. But as any used car it requires inspection and you need to make sure that the car was not involved in accidents, that is has 1 owner (less owners is better) and that it was privately owned, not by business. Then you can buy it.
I would go to www.carfax.com, pay $25 and see complete report on that car. If it looks ok, then I would pay another $150 and take it to any AAA or car care or maintenance service and check it there. Trust me, when you but car that cost more then $20K, your $170 is the best invesment!

Good luck!
