Rest implies fatigue, which is not omnipotence. Funny isn't it.

He had a reason and numbers a very important in the Bible they all represent something like the fact that us christians believe that Jesus is coming soon because of Bible prophecy (nobody knows exactly what day) but we can know the "times". Peter the apostle said that for God a day is a thousand years and a thousand years a day, according to creationist humans were created 6000 years ago and this would be the seventh millenium, so we believe Jesus is about to show up and end this thing, before the final judgement the Bible talks about the millenium reign of Christ on earth that would be the seventh day and a year of Peace and "REST" since the devil wont be around, to decieve "the Nations" = those who didn't know about Jesus wont be involved in the tribulation and will still be around, there's so much I can't put here but I hope this was interesting to you.
Regarding creation there's scientific evidence, even evidence that dinosaurs and man lived contemporanously! (fossils found) check this website: http://creationevidence.org
For more information on the subject I explained above, I could give you other sites if you are interested just contact me don't have them on the top of my head
Be blessed

God did this as an example for us. To work for 6 days and then to rest on the seventh. Everyone needs a day of rest.

Interesting question. The bible (King James version or otherwise) does not state that Jehovah 'needed' to rest, Genesis chapter 2 verses 1-3 says:
"1 Thus the heavens and the earth and all their army came to their completion. 2 And by the seventh day God came to the completion of his work that he had made, and he proceeded to rest on the seventh day from all his work that he had made. 3 And God proceeded to bless the seventh day and make it sacred, because on it he has been resting from all his work that God has created for the purpose of making."
So, using the scripture, we can see that it wasn't necessary for Jehovah to break from his work, it was something that He did. As for the specifics of 'why', perhaps it was an example to remind us of all that He had created for us; since we can get so wrapped up in our lives we occasionally need to 'stop and smell the roses', even God did.

Why did it take God 6 days to speak all that is into existance? I don't know. Surely He could have done it faster - I guess it just goes to show how much he loved us!
Now, concerning His period of rest. The Hebrew word which was translated as "rest" does not have the idea of recovering from exertion. Instead, it simply means to "not work".

She got tuckered out after making all those strange-looking animals for Australia and anyway Sunday had a full slate of great NFL games she wanted to watch. God at the time was a huge Canton Bulldogs fan I heard in those early days of the NFL.

God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh not for his own sake but to give humanity a pattern by which to live.
