Do you man proper? Ladylike?
Girls are made slightly different than guys and it's quite natural for us to cross our legs when we sit. Guys generally go the opposite way and have their knees spread as wide as possible without splitting themselves open.
So - it means nothing at all, except comfort.

Why is it seen as proper? Actually, the proper way is to cross your legs at the ankle, not the knee.
Probably just to keep things ... non-visible, if you follow me. Polite, probably considered to make the girl not seem "loose."
As for what I think, I don't know. I don't always follow the practice when wearing jeans; but it is gross considering that you could see a bit of underwear when a girl is sitting in a skirt or the like if she isn't crossing. I don't want to see that, but considering things nowadays, I'm sure most straight men wouldn't mind a girl not crossing.
Hopefully that makes sense.

We cross our legs to get comfortable, to keep guys from looking up our dresses, or out of habit. Why do YOU think we cross our legs?
And just because it's the internet doesn't mean it's okay to use poor grammar, bad spelling, and write in unintelligible sentences with no punctuation. I guess I'll never be "use" to it.

Why should I not sit down in a manner consistent with modesty and decency, especially if I'm wearing a skirt?
If a girl sits with crossed legs ,she is showing that her upbringing wasn't totally without refinement.

Back before we were born,
it was seen as promiscous for a lady to cross her legs.
She was looked upon as sexually immoral.
The times have changed, though.
It is no longer scandilous for a girl to cross her legs.
In fact, most people today think of it as the proper way to sit.

It is, in many circles, considered improper for a lady to cross her legs at the knees. Instead, it is preferred that the lady cross her legs at the ankles when sitting.

It is done so people can't see up their dresses when they sit down. That is why girls cross their legs.

i do it because it's comfortable and i've gotten used to it, it's a habit, especially when i wear skirts or dresses. it's so when i'm sitting across from a guy, i don't want him looking up my skirt or whatever.

I was taught at a young age that it is ladylike to do so, and now it's habit and comfortable.
