My view is that he had not forgotten his past relationship even though he likes you. I dun know how badly he was hurt in the last relationship. But from the description, I think he had a fear in getting into another relationship as he afraid that it may not work out as what he wants.
Try spending some time talking to him to really understand what is the main cause that actually hold him back in this relationship. I dun think it is advisable to drag on coz it is unhealthy to both of you.

It means that he is very careful with his heart. Don't take it personal it's not you. He was probably hurt bad in his past relationship and now he has walls up guarding his heart. He doesn't want to hurt or disappointed again. You have to give him time to heal. It's not like he is trying to lead you on or anything but right now for him, his emotions are stable yet. Just be his support and his rock. He will thank you for it later!!

That's the male equivalent of a women saying "I'm in a relationship (when she isn't). Or, "I'm not looking to date right now". It's just a nice way of saying he isn't interested. Either that, or it means he is just looking for sex and isn't really looking for a committed relationship.

its hard to say. It can mean that he's scared to have a relationship because of his past experiences, and he doesnt want to get hurt again. It could also mean that he likes you but can't see himself in a relationship because he has other priorities in mind..
