i dont get it. i come from down south in Atl. and when i come up here to ohio i get people telling me that i talk different and i get mad because i tell them im from down south and they just look at me different and say you talk different. what can i do before i get in alot of fights?

Take it with a grain of salt- I am from up north and moved down south (New Orleans) a few years ago-- I get the "you talk funny" comments all of the time.
Consider the fact that you are unique, and enjoy being "different" even if it is with just a Southern accent. You have the experience of life in the south, as well as the experience now of life up north. Enjoy the change in seasons, and the change in people and places. Eventually people will not notice the Southern accent, but will only notice you.
No need to fight over it, though.

I think most of them don't mean offense. They simply recognize your accent is different.
When I was at boot camp, I was with about 80 people from all over the U.S. I was told more than once, You are either from Texas, or Tennessee.I responded That I was from Texas. Well ,that brought a good natured ribbing (I'm from Texxxaass) Different states have there own accents. Listen to someone from North Carolina, New York, Louisiana,
I think you should chill out. If the person is ridiculing you, you can always put them in place by pointing out the pecularities of there own accent.Believe me, most have them.
Maybe the people asking you are just curious about where you are from. They just naturally recognize that you are not from Ohio.

Its because you may have a lighter accent. I had the same thing happen to me. I have a faint southern accent that most people don't notice, but when I traveled from Jacksonville to Cincinnati everyone was asking me where I was from because I sound southern.
Since your from the south your used to hearing it but when you travel to someplace else they pick up on it.
Just let it go, they have the problem not you......and depending on where in Ohio you are, they aren't that far form Ky.....

You do understand that most people are pretty dumb? (except everyone online right now) Just treat them like they are mentally deficient and don't get mad at them, kinda like a little puppy. They were born that way. I'd be happy that I didn't sound like everyone else. Besides it's really not worth fighting about.
