I agree a dog is as mean as he is trianed to be. If they have a good owner they will be just as sweet but if they have a bad 1 they will be mean.

I agree that animals behave as they are raised. However, I do believe that some breeds are prone to be more aggressive, which doesn't mean that 100% of them are. I do think that pit bulls show more aggression than other dogs and this aggression can be magnified by improperly raising the dog. Perhaps this is why they use pit bulls in dog fights (disgusting) because of their strength and aggression. Personally, I would not own one. If you have one that is sweet and gentle, that is fine. I am only making a generalization. In the animal world, different species are aggressors. If you had to choose between a shark and a guppy, which one would you want? I have two cats. I did not want them to be aggressive to birds and mice, so I sent them to tap dancing school to take their attention away from hunting.

i own pits and have bred them.
i currently have a male and female.
had the female 6 years and just adopted the one year old male that was abused and raised the wrong way.
now that he knows that i am the alpha...we get along better.
he still growls at me ...but only a warning that he doesn't like what i am doing...never bit me.
and little does he know..."i bite back"!
people who think pits are a bad breed are really ignorant.
it's the people who have them and train them to be mean...or neglect them or just don't understand how smart a pit really is.
i love my dogs more that i like people...and would die for them...and they would do the same for me....well my female would....the male is close behind......lol

Pit bulls are not mean or bad animals. The owners are the responsible for the behaviour and actions of the their dog.

i agree its about the way the owner treats them, my son hit my dog and he hasnt got over it,my son has autism and didnt listen, now that he is older he regrets it, but also some dogs are just mean in nature..but i have a pitbull mixed with weenier dog and he has been a great guard dog..he is sweet and he just avoids my son, but he is getting up there in age and a lil moody..but likes to make lots of puppies in his spare time. I tell my boy look at all the puppies he has made and he cannot support a one..

Me either. I have 4 adult pitbulls, and I have never had a problem out of any of them. They are like my own kids. Well, they are my own kids and i will F**K you up about them. It is all about how you raise your pits. If you are feeding them less to make them mean or beating on them because you can't get them to do what you want them to do. And if you are fighting them, then someone needs to beat the hell out of you. So, it's not the dog (pitbull), it's the stupid people who raise them. :- )

I agree, its all in how they are raised. I had one when I was younger and he was a big baby. My brother had one named Bubba Joe and he was a big baby, however he had another one that someone gave him, I can't remember his name, and I was scared to death of him. THe dogs I don't trust are Rottwiellers.

I agree that its usually people who are responsible for the bad behavior of a dog. Pitts are very strong...and when a problem does arise it is harder to correct.
